Hi All,

Just wanted to introduce myself the to forum and let everyone know I'm a new USP.45 owner. I picked the pistol up from a coworked with 3 hi-cap mags, a threaded Jarvis barrel, and a Surefire weaver rail conversion.

I wanted to know who is using a tactical holster and how do you like it? Also, I've only seen a few places on the web who "sell" (most places are out of stock) match trigger kits and was wondering if they are hard to come by.

Thanks and nice to meet you all,

Grant

Welcome to the USP club!

There's several options for H&K parts: HK-pro.com & such. I know I'm not spelling it correctly, but a quick trip thru this section should net you good leads.

If I may be bold enough to suggest, if you're gonna use this gun for CCL, do NOT change the trigger in any way, shape or form. It can very well haunt you if you ever had to do a defense shooting.

If the gun is never to be used as a CCL, then by all means have at it........

As for the "tactical" holster, do you mean the thigh rig? Kinda ackward for usage, IMO. I would suggest a standard belt holster, such as Bladetech. If you have a specific use for a specific holster, a bit more info should help others list some options for you.

BobCole,

Thanks for the advice. I didn't think about the impact a non-standard trigger could potentially have on the reliability of a CCL gun. It is my hope to use the gun for CCL. Also, yeah by "tactical holster" I did mean the thigh rig, mostly for now I want a good rig for carrying my gun when I'm at the range or out plinking in the wilderness near my house.

Welcome to the site, Geejar!

I purchased my first HK last weekend...a USP .45 (full size), so I can certainly share your excitement.

I don't think BobCole was referring to the reliability issue of changing out your trigger, I believe that he was coming from a defense attorney standpoint. "Mr. Geejar knowingly and intentionally modified his weapon to make it a more efficient killing machine..." etc... For some reason lawyers have a field day with "modified" guns, and heaven help you if you dump someone with reloads (non-factory ammunition).

Enjoy the site! Lot's of great people and information here.

You know, I didn't even think of the match trigger modification comming for the lawyer standpoint. What a load of cr@p!
Additionally, its sad to think that reloads (more cost effective to the shooter) are comming under attack when amunittion like "extreme shock" is designed for one specific purpose- to put a person down. Dont get me wrong, if the situation presents itself where I have to shoot someone in self defense (my life is at risk) I'm going to do so with high performance "self-defense" ammunition, it's just sad to see such a sofisticated and enjoyable hobby like reloading come under attack by greedy lawyers.

Sorry, just my .02

Congrats on your new USP dep4532.

We all agree that it is a load of garbage and hypocritical to say the least. It makes about as much sense as the Dems trying to ban the "assault" rifles, because it will magically cease all gun related violence.

Finally got around to shooting a pic of my new edition...

Throw up a pic when you get the chance!

I picked up a full size 9mm this week, and I had a question the manual didn't answer.  Do I need to do any special cleaning before I take it out for the first time or is the grease/oil in it ready to shoot?  All I've done so far is wipe some of the excess off of the slide so it doesnt make a mess while I'm handing it.

I would take the time to run a dry patch or two down the bore before I hit the range with it. No sense in stressing a bore with dirt/garbage in there if one doesn't need to, IMO.

A jag is your best bet on swabbing a bore, versus an eye-let patch holder, FWIW.

Good luck!

I have to disagree, as long as you are changing it to one of the factory trigger variants or the match trigger.

If it helps you shoot it better go ahead.  Any decent defense lower should be able to easily dispel the modification height.  "Mr. X spent an extra $200 to have the trigger modified by the factory to better control the firearm and reduce the risk to innocent bystanders if he ever had to use it in a defensive situation.

Carrying my USP on the body is an ongoing research problem to put it nicely. So far, I've found that only winter weather, field jackets, provide adequate concealment ...... (but it may also be an issue of life style in that I'm often in environments where I have to be unarmed that I haven't found that decent solution yet because lack of compulsion).

At any rate, as you learn, practice, may I suggest you exploit that extra large trigger guard by practicing shooting with heavy winter gloves on. I know that sounds like something with the mob, I know there are mittens where one can pull back the cover to have finger tip control, but consider the following:

You're in the field, it's somewhere around zero in temperature, and you need to do a sweep of an area. Are you really going to expose your hands, flesh, to that environment for any length of time?

Personally, I have found that with my fur lined gloves on that I cannot or it is very hard to fire decocked, one handed, on my weak side ...... something I can do when I do not have gloves on.

Granted, you may not have a requirement for doing an outside sweep in an hostile environment. I currently don't ..... but I train to be able to handle whatever they may want to give me.

(Tyler has just beaten the Thanksgiving Stuffing out of a bar tough, ruining any chance for Matlock to meet his contact. "Did you just see what happened? Maybe you are an ex Green Beret who can adequately defend himself. But if not, contact me, Ben Matlock, Personal Injury Lawyer! I will fight for your rights, see that you are comfortable compensated for.", and Matlock hands out his business card so his unknown contact can reach him, (w,stte), "Matlock")

A) You're asking an awful lot of a jury to have common sense about guns, IMO.

B) A woman in Nashville just got off from a murder rap from shooting her husband because he had modded the trigger on the murder gun.

C) There's many documented court cases where a DA/lawyer went after an owner in a justified shooting because he had a modded trigger. You may wish to spend $5k on lawyer fees, *I* don't...........

But we're not talking about a home gunsmith job on a trigger/disabling a safety device, etc.  We're talking about changing a variant or having HK install their match trigger.  The gun was designed for this.  It's one of their selling points: easily changeable trigger/control options.

Hey, you don't have to convince me.........

But for a CCL gun, one is MUCH better served leaving it OEM & there are lawsuits to prove it.
