Hello. I have a USP Tact. in .45. I bought it a little over a year ago from someone on this website. The basic breakdown procedure is very simple on this gun. I clean it after every shoot, but I've never been farther than barrel, slide and mag-well. Does anyone here know how to take it down farther than that? Does it need it? I'd kinda like to clean the firing-pin, etc... Thanks... |

Like you, I too wanted to detail clean my USP's like I do my 1911s. However, a 1911 is not a USP & vice versa. I have decided to just live with spraying out the trigger group & slide parts I can't/won't/don't detail strip with some spray cleaner & do the best I can with the parts I do scrub. Chasing a small roll pin or spring somewhere in the garage is NOT my idea of "fun"............. ![]() My .o2

Unless the gun has been dunked in mud and sand a detailed stripping is not warranted or needed. And if this matters to you, it voids the warranty. IMO you can do just as good a job of cleaning with a bottle of MPRO-7 and a can of canned air. Plus, in most cases you create more wear on your pistol tearing it down unnecessarily than if you left a little dirt in there that doesn't affect anything. Prelems out of the way, if you insist that you must do a DS or loose sleep, here is a link that will walk you through it complete with pictures. |

No, not really. I've taken the firing pin and extractor out of my mark23, but it didn't matter. It wasn't very dirty after several thousand rounds. If you want to take the slide compnents out (extractor claw, firing pin, firing pin block) you just need an 1/8th inch roll-pin punch. Just gently tap them out. I will suggest to NOT take apart the trigger group components. It will be a major PITA and you will not accomplish anything. |
