I saw what was labeled a HK4 in a gunshop yesterday.  I do not know much about HK's and nothing about this model.  It was sold in a wooden presentation box, with two barrels, 22lr and 380acp.  I was unable to ask the saleman for information on the pistol.  It look very similar to a Walther PP.

Questions:

Is this an Heckler and Koch?  Google is my friend, and I see that it is...  I also see that this model went out of production in 1984.

Are these any good?  It looked like a nice pocket pistol if it is reliable...

This model was a little pimped out, do they make a utility model?

What is a good price on one of these?

Thanks for the info...

sounds like you saw the H&R 100 year aniversary HK4, it should have had a gold trigger and gold insert on the slide, these were sold with 380 and 22 cal.

Great little gun, but it was really ment to be a 32 not a 380, I would limit my use of 380.

I have 4 of the HK4's and really dig them.

1 is a H&R aniversay set, bought on GB for $480 this year, unfired
1 is a very early(166th made) 4 caliber(22,25,32,380) set, unfired, paid some coin for this one.
1 is set up just as a 22, super fun gun, this is also a H&R import
1 is a 4 cal set that I shoot, normaly in 32, but have shot a good deal of 380 in it.

H&R was the importer of HK4 up thru 75 I think

pic of the H&R HK4

early(1967) HK4 4 cal set, notice the slide is different, this was really a pre serial production gun, this style was only made for a few hundered guns, then went to the sytle most commonly seen. This was also imported by H&R but it not marked H&R its pure HK

price for a HK4 used in just 32 or 380, $350-500
HK4 in 32 or 380 with 22 kit, $600-ish
all 4 calibers, $700-1800(just depends) last 4 cal set I got was $700
just the 22 kit, $150-200
never will see a 25 cal kit for sale by itself.....even though I know someone with one that he would sell

3 cal kit.....up to $800, but more like $400-500

the aniversary sets $450-800

I really like them as you can tell ;)

Cool.  Yes the first picture is what I saw.  It appeared to be new or very slightly used and they were asking $430 to the best of my recollection.  What about extra magazines are they difficult to find?

Thanks again for the info...

$430 sound like a good deal to me.

380/32 mags pretty easy to find, 22 mags........few and far between, last one I saw was $60.

Model 4, is a Mauser HSc clone. They are nice pistols, but if used as a shooter...make sure the buffer is good. Especially in .380 caliber. Mine broke the frame. I have another NIB for the collection though.

sorta a clone and definetly the ancestor of the HK4, the designer(Alex Seidel) of the HSC was also the designer of the HK4 but there are some major differences.

agreed, check the buffer, or just replace regardless, Numrich has them cheap.

picked up a project HK4 at the gun show yesterday, needed some parts which I made/tracked down today. Paid $300 for the HK4 with 32 barrel, two 22 cal barrels(old and new style), 22 mag, 32 mag, 22 extractor, tool, both boxes and manauls.......I had planed on parting it out.......but taking it to the range to see how it runs.....
