How the hell do I take the thread saver thing off. This thing will not move at all.Do I just take some plyers and start cranking or what?

The threads on the tac are left handed, righty-loose, lefty-tight.
Odds are you were going the wrong way.  And odds are now you really have it on tight.  Now, put pistol in freezer (slide any way) overnight.
Tomorrow morning hold the TP over a candle for just a moment to heat up the TP but not the barrel.  Now, turning it the correct way, take it off.

Remember, turn it clockwise to remove!

If you have to, use a good pair of channel locks and thick towel or a some rubber or leather.

Is it a 40 or 45?

IIRC the thread on the 40 are normal and the 45 they are backwards. . .
