It will come out clean.  I've got a lab that has an appetite for socket heads.  He at several one day when I was working on the car and went in to get something to drink.  I found them in the yard and sprayed them off with the hose & then WD-40 real good. They came out real clean and shiny.  Thinking about feeding him some .45 brass to see if he can do a better job than my tumbler.

All indications that I've read about dogs swallowing things usually point to metal objects (especially ones that aren't sharp) coming out in better shape than when they went in.  Nice n' shiny once you rinse the "protective packaging" off.
