I am leaning to buying the Tactical, primarily as a range gun, it has to be one of the sexiest guns out there. Now, I have searched HKPRO and this site for answers on what people think about this gun, as far as performance. Should I get it in .40 or .45 to save $$. Where I like there is like a 2-3 dollar difference for 50 rounds. This I dont mind paying the difference, but can someone tell me some good rounds to use, or should I just experiment with grain weight and such. I still havn't really found any type of ballistics on the rounds to see about groupings, I know the gun is going to be ALOT more accurate than I am, I have been shooting for about 5 years now and I see this with most guns, but i dont want to buy another peice of garbage that cant hold a decent grouping at 25 yards. Thanks.

Unless something has changed recently, the Tactical is only available in the standard .45 and also 9mm (which is called the USP9 SD).  The 9mm version does NOT have the O-Ring barrel or the match trigger like the .45 version, but it does have the threaded barrel.

And I'd highly recommend the .45 over the 9mm.

The Tac has been available in .40 for over a year now.  I have both.
Both will be able to keep all 5 shots inside an inch at 25 yards using a solid rest and match ammo the pistol likes.  Personally, I like the .45 best because I like the .45 best, any gun.
For really good factory (re)loaded ammo at a really good price, try the Lancer reloads.  My Tac .45, as well as Expert, Elite, USP, and USPC will shoot the Lancer 230 gr. ball stuff as well as they shoot Federal GM match ammo.  Fairly cheap too.
I have also had good results with the Lancer reloads in .40, although I have not shot my Tactical .40 it will shoot just as well as the .45, of that I have no doubt.
Plus, much of the .45 ammo you will buy will be sub sonic in case you ever get a can for it.  While the Lance 180 gr. ammo in .40 is sub-sonic and relative cheap, sub-sonic ammo for the .40 is a little harder to find.  All .45 gr. 230 ball (which is the cheap stuff too) will be sub sonic so long as you don't get it in +p.
Now, if you talk to Mark McWillis at TROS he will tell you that since getting his .40 Tac he has pretty much retired his .45 Tac.  He really loves the .40 Tac.  While I have not shot my .40 Tac, I have shot enough .40s to know I will stick with the .45.  Some love affairs need not end.

PLEASE do not call the 9SD a Tactical or use the word Tactical and 9SD in the same sentence (woops, look here, I did it twice).  That is like calling a one's wife a whore because she if female.  As you said, no match trigger, no o-ring barrel, and my 9SD is the worst shooting HK I own and the only HK pistol I can out shoot.  Since mine was bought for collecting I kept it rather than send it back for a new barrel which serial number would not match, but several on HKPRO have gotten 9SDs that wouldn't shoot worth a hoot until they replaced the barrel with an o-ringed Jarvis.  Others have gotten 9SDs though that were just as accurate as any full size 9mm.  However, it will never be a Tactical.

HK calls the 9mm version a Tactical (www.hkpro.com/usptactical.htm), although the name is synonymous with .45 to me.

+1 on the .45. It will work better suppressed as well.
