I am having the slide release on my USPc 40 milled down to make it a little less obnoxious. Once that's done, I know I'll have to get a finish applied to it. I was thinking about just sending the slide and release in at the same time and have them both done. My understanding is that it is parkerized, but have also read up it may be a proprietary "HE" (hostile environment) finish. Any suggestions?

Robar's Np3 is apparently the cat's ass for finishes these days. It's a teflon-like finish that is seemingly impervious to almost all things bad to a gun's finish. Might want to check Robar's web site for detailed info?

It definitely is not parkerized.  HK uses what they call a HE finish as you said, it is a nitro-carbonizing method that cannot be duplicated outside of HK and HK does not do refinishing.  Your choice would be to have it duracoated, ceramicoated, or any of the super finishes.  From one of the earliest but still one of the best, Birdsong Black and Green Teflon coating to hard chroming, to NP3 and ceramic coating, you name it, the sky is the limit.  They are all good.  Arizona Response Systems use to do refinishing for HK-USA and they come about as close to the original HE as you can get, but no matter who refinishes your pistol you will lose all contrasting proof and serial number marks.  You will still be able to see them unless the coater does a lousy job, but they will be filled and will no longer be contrasting like the original.
