I picked up some of the wilson ones for mine and wasn't that impressed. They didn't seem as good as the wilson 45's but they were better then the colt ones my gun came with. Really didn't like the base plates on the 2 colt mags.
Can't comment on other vendors mags as I only have the colt and wilson ones with mine. |

If you paid that much for a LNIB Pre-owned pistol, Nice score. I don't know about the checkmate mags, but the Colt factory mags suck. The floorplates are extremely weak. I used both for 20 insertions apiece on my first range session and it appeared the tabs bent outwards (had a mag order on the way by then). My second trip, I forgot one of the mags and put an additonal 30 or so insertions on the one I had. That was enough to bend the floorplate to the point where the mag would overinsert. I mailed them off to Colt and they replaced them. Bad batch or bad contract on the floorplates? Your guess is good as mine, but those will remain unfired. I went with the Tripp Cobramags. I am a Wilson Combat fan, but the lack of metal floorplates and the bulk buy discount swung my decision in Tripp's favor. Tripp mags are the best-finished mags and they appear nearly "overbuilt" (if there truly is such a thing). I purchased 2 9 round mags with 4 10 round backups for 9+1/10/10 carry. The 9s stick out. I knew the floorplate would stick out, but the mag body sticks out by a fraction of an inch as well. I dropped the shitty plastic MSH for a Wilson Combat Speed Chute/flat checkered MSH, and the 9s fit to perfection now. The protruding body is completely shrouded by the thin chute, with just a thin sliver of that frankenstein boot floorplate jutting out for easy insertion. The problem however, is that these magazines have not earned my confidence with respect to reliability. I have experienced some frequent FTFs. I have been unsuccessful at times dropping the slide release on a fresh mag, and have even had some problems sling-shotting the slide on a fresh mag. The biggest caveat to this is that my Delta has NEVER chambered anything other than my budding 10mm handloads, and I had a shok buff in the weapon to boot. I did drop the shok buff and paid close attention to OALs on my last range trip, but still experienced the same problems. It might be the fact that the brass batch used is seeing the end of its days, or the crimp is mis-shaping some of the projectiles into a less feed-friendly shape, but I get the impression that the 10-rounders may be a little finicky. This is pure speculation at this point and results are too inconclusive with the variables at present. I plan on weeding things out and getting to the bottom of the issue as the opportunity presents itself. The mags are certainly pretty, and sturdier than Wilsons, but I get the impression that I'd have less reliability issues with the Wilson feedlip follower design. Time will tell. PERFECT 10mm Mag, based on my impressions so far? Tripp Tubes & Floorplates, Colt Follower, Wilson Combat Feedlip Design. |
| Yep 789 at Buds.. I snagged it quick.... well I only reload for the 10mm, too dang expensive, plus really dont see any 10mm ammo around my area right now... I have been using bearcreek molly coated in My glock 10mm, I shot close to 50 rounds of them today in the delta , had one shell when I went to rack it ,it didnt chamber, tried again and did.. 1 time the slide didnt stay back, and 1 stovepipe. |

Can you get wolff springs for the colt mags??? if so will it improve them??? Quoted:

Can you get wolff springs for the colt mags??? if so will it improve them??? Wolff Delta Elite Section The springs are listed as +10%, which makes them extra power (thus you are getting a stronger spring than a stock replacement). Will that "improve" a Colt mag? If you have a perfectly good mag, it may slightly improve it, particularly if it's time to replace the mag spring. If the Colt mag(s) in question suffer(s) from what I experienced, these springs will actually advance the deterioration of the inferior floorplate. If you have used the Colt mags for a while without experiencing any floorplate bending or reliability issues from multiple range trips, then I would leave the mags absolutely stock. Later on you can spend money "upgrading" the springs with Wolff springs when the mags actually need replacement springs. If you are having reliability issues alone which may be mag-related, you can try the spring or try some different mags (I would advocate the latter). |
| I have heard from more than a few that Metalform made the Colt stamped original magazines (or at least was contracted for parts of the magazine). Having had firsthand experience with weak metal bending at the floorplate I would be very hesitant to buy these mags. The weld secures the floorplate to lessen the likelihood of floorplate bending as compared to the sliding plates, but then again, should the tabs bend through use, the entire magazine is useless rather than the floorplate. My advice is to go with something better built. |

Before recommending not to buy the Metalform magazines, you should really hold one in your hands. They are well made. I own them myself. I recommended not buying them based on the understanding that I did in fact hold them in my hands (contracted for Colt factory mags). If Metalform had nothing to do with the Colt contract, then that is a different matter. I would still pass since I don't like the flimiser floorplate tab design, don't like welded bottom mags for their difficulty cleaning/stripping, and I don't believe in flush-fitting mags, (that, and I can get a 9 round mag that looks better finished with sturdy removable floorplate), but not everybody shares these sensibilities. |

Actually those factory Colt mags are some of the best you can buy. What was the basis for your statement otherwise? |

Quoted: http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w19/Colt45guy/Delta.jpg Slide is on the way to Novak for machine work now...I'm using the down time to load up some ammo. I honestly haven't had this much fun with a new gun since......well, a long time Done in this pic: Replaced the grips (inlayed the Delta emblems myself) Replaced the plastic MSH with a flat checkered MSH Gutted the Series 80 firing pin block and installed a shim Replaced the original grip safety with a Wilson unit Replaced the original safety lever with a Wilson ambi unit Replaced the original sloppy trigger with a Wilson Bead blasted frame for a matte finish Done since that pic was taken: Checkered the front strap 25 LPI to match the MSH Replaced the original firing pin stop with an EGW oversized FPS, lightly beveled Replaced the double recoil spring/plastic guide with a Wolff 24# and a GI guide Replaced the Wilson trigger with a Dlask magnesium solid Tuned trigger to break at eggzaktly 4 lbs with minimal creep or over-travel. (Better trigger than my Les Baer had) Bead blasted frame again (after cutting the checkering) Contoured and bead blasted the ambi safety levers to match the rest of the gun (I'm a lefty and the large left side lever would dig into my knuckle upon firing.....so I reduced the width by half) When the slide comes back from Novak, it'll be DONE and ready for carry duty or hog/deer hunting......and to my wife's dismay, time to move on to a new project ![]() That is BEAUTIFUL! How did you inlay the medallions on those VZ double diamonds? I have got to get a set of them for mine! |
|
why, thank you sir! I'm pretty pleased with 'em myself, but it's always nice to hear it from someone else I had a set of black linen micarta grips that I've had for several years.....I figured they were beat up enough to risk ruining them and I tried to use a hand drill to cut the inlay. I ordered the new black/desert VZ grips from Brownells that evening, and went to Harbor Freight after work the next day and bought a $40 benchtop drill press––used a 1/2" bit and clamped the grips to the little table with C clamps to keep the grip from moving. I used the back end of my calipers to measure the depth and cut to just below flush to leave some room for the glue. You can get the emblems online for about $10/set, but I popped these out of the original grips. I roughed up the back of the emblems with some sandpaper and glued 'em in with GOOP. (Whole operation only took about 10 minutes) Lesson of the day: Use the right tools for the job and you won't have to buy another set of grips
