I have a 6 inch stainless Python Elite I bought while a gun store was going out of business about 8 years ago. I had looked at it for a time but they wanted $1100 when it got marked down to $750 I bought it! I have never shot it. These have been selling for $2000+ lately. Will it hurt the value if I shoot it? |

A new in the box, unfired gun is like a new car..... Drive it off the lot and its a used car, value drops.
Fire even one shot from a NIB Python and its a used gun..value drops. Also, save and protect the original box and EVERYTHING that's in it. All papers, tags, even the plastic bag. |

If you don't plan on selling it, go shoot it. Otherwise it sits in the safe for 30 years and your grand kids sell it to put a subwoofer in their honda. hahahhahaha. I agree. but unfortunately, probably true. Unless you are some type of collector, go shoot the thing if you appreciate it. Yes it will devalue a bit, but it is a gun, not an investment. You won't ever get retail for it, so don't think you are going to be out $1300 for shooting it. |

I vote for not shooting it. to do so will be a shot to the wallet
Seems to me the best two ways to go about it would be: 1) Keep it as is for enjoyment or future sale for profit 2) Sell it off to a collector and buy a similar used gun (or something else) to shoot I was once shooting in someone's backyard and a friend of a friend brought along gun historian R.L. Wilson (years ago) who broke out a crazy engraved 1st gen single action army that Colt had presented to him because they loved a book he had done. When asked he claimed it was worth about $8 to $10,000 . After loading and shooting it he goes "Ha! now it is worth $4,000!" |

Yes, damn it! Shoot it!
I didn't say abuse it, but do shoot at least a box through it. They do fire them at the factory, so there is some mileage on it when you get it. I remember being a poor college student and lusting after the $600 nickel Python at the local shop... |
