I can say that I am pleasantly suprised to say that the fit and finish seems superior to my parkerized Springfield Armory Mil-Spec that I bought several years ago.
That should NOT be a surprise. These are well made guns. If that is a recent production one, take a look at the barrel ramp. You will note a gentle "trough" of groove in the center to help feed different ammo types. This is one of the improvements Colt made that has made the guns impressively reliable with all kinds of variable ammo. You will likely be very pleased. |

I have been saving up spare cash for several months, planning, scheming, and debating on what to do. My original plans were to get a SS Colt 1991 model after handling one at my local shop and falling in love with the trigger on it. Well, I read up on them, had second thoughts, changed my mind about a hundred times over the last few months. I went to the Salem VA gun show yesterday, and I saw it for a decent price. After fondling it a couple of times, I finally decided it was time to go with my first instinct. So, I purchased my first Colt. After getting it home, and performing a closer more detailed inspection, I can say that I am pleasantly suprised to say that the fit and finish seems superior to my parkerized Springfield Armory Mil-Spec that I bought several years ago. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I am definately looking forward to running some rounds through this one. Of course, here is the mandatory Picture! http://user.va.net/~danoakes/Guns%20and%20Stuff/IMG_0701.JPG apples and oranges. youre comparing a non finished one vs a park with regards to finish. if youre going to compare finish, compare a COlt 1991A1 in park with your SA park. btw, took you long enough. |

Yes, this was one of the first things I noticed. I am just really impressed with the barrel to slide fit and slide to frame fit. The main thing though is the trigger is AWESOME! It breaks so clean, that is what really turned me on to Colt. Every one that I have handled has been the same. I may have to burn a sick day at work to get some time at the range soon |

Yeah, this is really impressing me about the newest Colts. I bought a 2007 Commander with just a hair of use on it this past spring. Stock, it has by far the finest "factory" trigger on it of any "out-of-the-box" gun I've ever seen. I have several guns with better triggers, but those had tons of work on them by my myself or true professionals to get them that way. This one is not quite as crisp, but it is light, consistent, and smooth with ZERO added work. Colt is really starting to fire on all cylinders since the big reorg started seven/eight years ago. I have not cracked mine open yet to see why it is so good - I am curious if they are making the hooks shorter, or what. I may open it up this week and finally see what it is they are doing so right. |

Quoted: Not really as I see him comparing one specific pistol to another specific pistol that BOTH belong to him. I didn't see him comparing finish to finish as far as which is superior (durability, likely to rust, etc,) but rather the difference in quality of finish. I have a parked Colt that has a quality finish that is as good as my SS Colts finish quality although I don't consider park better than SS as to durability. YMMV and my opinion is NEVER humble. Gee, that's large of you. I wasn't comparing apples and oranges but I won't burden you with any more logic. ![]() |
