You can use a standerd government model 8 rnd magazine in it, it will just stick out some.

What exactly do you mean by compact? A commander or Officers model?

Check the Wilson Combat site. Although I think the biggest mag capacity is 7 rounds for an Officers sized pistol.

They have 8 round for officers, if I am reading the site correctly. I am getting ready to purchase some from Wilsons. I wonder if they stick out or not. I may just have to give them a call tomorrow.

They should be fine. I had some Colt OACP eight-rounders mags but they reverted to seven when I put Wilson kits in them.
