In the interest of conceal carrying different firearms, I'm going to start carrying my colt combat commander.

Probably is, all I've ever shot through it through its life are FMJ reloads. Will I have any problem with this pistol feeding HP ammo(gold dots or ranger SXT mostly likely 230gr)? Will be using pachmeyer mags with bumper pads.

Were I you I'd pick up a couple of Tripp Research Cobra Mags and go with Ranger RA45T.

CCs shouldn't have problems with modern JHP designs. I hope this question is not asked as a substitution of testing carry ammo in a defensive gun, however. Just as a few hundred FMJs are fired to ensure the weapon works, it's the shooter's responsibility to test with JHPs if the pistol is used for protection.

My Commander wouldn't feed HPs without a little massaging (even with Wilson mags).
In fact, during break-in, it FTF'd about one out of ten on 230 hardball.

Now it runs great.

I guess I'm saying: Don't assume, test.

Yes I'll test it I was just curious, HP ammo is expensive to use as "range ammo"

I guess there is a reason I carry a glock 26, it feeds everything and goes bang all the time

My mid 80's vintage LW Commander handles all manner of HP ammo( sorry, no +P, this is an alloy framed gun you know).  It likes 230gr Hydra shoks so that's what I run.

I've been running Wilson 47D magazines since I bought the gun in 1997

The only ammo it doesn't like is lead SWC handloads.

Mine is a steel 70's series, great little gun.

I'll fire off a few hydrashocks this weekend and see if it likes it.

Been running the 8rd pachmeyr mags for a LONG time.

My NRM Commanders both have fed Speer 230gr Gold Dots 100%.

In fact, the only ammo-type problems I've experienced with either Colt is that my stainless Commander - which gets used regularly for USPSA single-stack matches - becomes somewhat unreliable with my Unique handloads when it starts getting dirty (so the solution, of course, has been to clean more thoroughly more often).

Factory hardball and the GDHPs have been flawless.

Same goes for my S70-reissue Government - except that it doesn't even get finicky with those reloads when it starts getting dirtier.
