Any word on the release date?  I want to hold out for one, but I can get a Dan Wesson now.  I just got a Colt 6920 instead, but early january I am going to get a 10mm 1911.

I'm wondering the same thing.
People are asking too much for their used ones.
Sad thing is that the used ones people are selling have been messed with in bad ways.

I've seen some used one on this site for sale or trade but at the asking price I'd just wait for the new ones to come out.

My local dealer called Colt last week. They told him they were on the back burner for now. Said there were some problems during testing.

Yeah, just heard that from my dealer also.  He said from talking to them he doesn't see them shipping in 08.  Colt told him summer at best, probably fall.  I am ordering a dan wesson first week of jan.

I have my doubts they will ever come out, and if they are released I am not going to rush and buy the first ones if they are having serious problems.  They should have kept the last year design, and just made them.

I heard from another forum that the bull barrel was the cause of problems as they are supposedly switching to a normal barrel/bushing set up.

Either way come mid January we should know what's happening with the Delta(Shot Show).

Jetfuelburner: I can see that Colt is trying to scrimp on a the gun. There is no scallop behind the ejection port to aid the ejection of the spent casing.

I'll withhold judgment until I see the final product.  I prefer the original Delta Elite look over this:

Wow I kind of like it.
Look at the high cut under the trigger guard for a high grip.
That bever tail leaves me with the "Ray Charles would have made it look better" thought.
Better wear safety glasses or else those white plastic inserts it the sights will knock your eyes out

UH WTF Jetfuel?

your second post shows the DE as billed: complete w bull barrel. Yet your first set of pics shows an "originally configured" DE. what gives?

According to the Shot show thread, the first series of pictures is of an old Delta Colt pulled out of storage to show what they will be cough "making" cough.
Of course, it will be available in August, bullshit.

The second set is what Colt showed last year.

Let me get this straight...

Last year you have the unpopular bull barrel featured, available 10/08, and now you have an originally configured DE available 8/09?

Yeah, looks like another vaporware cocktease to me.

Wellllll.....

I posted a pic of the DE as displayed at this years...2009...shot show.  Someone said they didn't like it.  Soooo...I posted a pic of the one they were showing last year...2008...which had 2 things I personally didn't like, bushingless bull barrel and fancy Colt logo grips as opposed to this years offering with the old school Delta emblem and standard barrel/bushing configuration.

Apparently they were having some sort of trouble with the bull barrel setup.

Is that better?

Unfortunately, I think you may be right.  I REALLY want a Colt 10mm and I've been holding out for their re-release.  I may have to get an older one.  Or just bite the bullet and have Wilson make me one.

The bull barrel was causing problems and it was also unpopular.

Last week, one of the nice customer service ladies (name withheld, but she was super-helpful about a different question I had) said she'd been told they were due out in Spring.  Last year, Colt strung everyone along quite a lot, so I'm not holding my breath, but I'm adopting a "wait and see" attitude toward it.

If it comes out, I'll buy one.  I can use the new one for shooting/carry on the farm and put my original one back in the original box and keep it in the safe for collectibility.

I haven't seen a DS (stainless) serialed Delta Elite with a number that high.  If the one in your photo is an old one they pulled out of the museum for SHOT, I'd be surprised.

I'd prefer they come out with a "plain Jane" no-frills version.  I can easily send the slide off to Novak for a week to have the sights of my choice put on, rather than Colt's XSE sights, which are not compatible with anything.  I can fit a legitimate beavertail and a Cylinder & Slide extended ambi safety and be done with all of the modifications I'll want to do to it.

Works for me.  And the manufacturing process on the no-frills version will be simpler and might even be on machines that aren't in use since they're building so many XSEs and Combat Elites right now.  At least I hope.

Wait and see what happens, now, I guess...

My Delta Elite is that way, it ejects just fine.

+1

Mine has no problem with ejection.  It chucks the expended brass out with enough force you don't want to be standing to my right.

I called Colt customer service on Friday (Jan 30) and a person there said that they will be available in the Spring of '09. (FWIW)
