I purchased a NIB Colt WW1 earlier this year and I have not shot it yet.  This gun is beautiful and I am dying to shoot it.  This is the only 1911 that I have, I sold all my non-Colts.  I want to grow my 1911 Colt collection, but for now, my attention and $ is going towards high capacity pistols.  Would I decrease the value of this gun greatly by shooting it?  Or should I let it become a Safe Queen and someday my kids will enjoy it or sell it.  I think I answered my own question, but I would still like to hear some advice.

PS:  this is a great forum

Safe Queens suck, I don't buy firearms as investments. I buy them as tools, shoot that smoke pole

I want one of those.  All I can say is I would shoot it, but also maintain it and store in optimum conditions.

If it is one of the Carbona blue WWI that were limited, I would prob put it in the safe.  The current run of Black Army 1918's are not limited, so shoot it.

+1

If you are not sure whether yours is the WWI or the 1918, check the SN. If it begins with WMK, it's a limited run series. If it begins with WWI, it's a continuous run item on par with a S70 repro.

Why not, it helps to have investments that make more money, be it real estate, stocks, or guns. It is neat to shoot a gun, and then a few years later turn around and sell it for what you paid or more

Guns make very bad investments.  A few manage to go up over the years, but by far most of them just become used guns and priced accordingly.

Thankyou all for your replys.  I now have both clips loaded with 230gr hard ball and will send them down range tomorrow.  I will be 55 years young later this month and I figure that I don't have enough time left to watch this pistol double in value.  Anyway, our dollar won't be worth squat by then anyhow.  This is a great forum and I am glad to be here!

Load your magazines with 230 hardball as you have no clips for a 1911.

I have two WW1 reissues. One carbonia finish and one black oxide. I shoot them both. They are great shooters. Dont miss out on the enjoyment of shooting yours.

Well, I took all your advice and have been enjoying myself shooting my new WWI repro.  I do get the occasional bite in the web of my hand, but I never notice it until I have emptied the magazine.  This gun has been flawless and it shows very little wear after several hundred rounds.  I only wish that I could swing a second one.  This is the most beautiful pistol of any kind that I have ever seen

Which did you buy, the WWI or the 1918? If I had a 1918 I'd dump mags until the bottom of the slide turned silver from contact wear. Haven't had the nerve to fire either of my WWIs though (the being that I bought #2 to fire guilt free and it hasn't worked out that way so far)

Not to worry,, I bought this gun from a dealer in Forreston, IL.  I've been shooting the heck out of this gun with all types of ammo and only had one issue with a old mag that I had laying around.  As crazy as this sounds, I am thinking about a IWB holster for concealed carry.

I've shot mine a bunch.  I own some pretty cool guns, but that's the coolest.

When you pick it up it makes you want to say, "Ivan, did you see the sun come up this morning?"

ETA: Yeah I know he had an A1, whatever.
