A friend just bought a Colt Series 80 SS .45 Auto that he insists has stamped on it "M1991A1" NOT "M1911A1'. Is it possible that this could be a factory mistake. I know little about Colt .45 autos so any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks! I am now much smarter than I was! I will relay this info to my friend. As a matter of info, he bought this Colt for $250(like new!) and a Sigarms P229 .40 for $250(still in the box), also!
