I was wondering what you all think of Colt 1991's if they are good quality or not? As far as any frequent malfuntions ar anything like that? Because after I sell that damn Auto Ordinance 1911 that has given me problems like I mentioned on the 1911 Forum I am either gonna get a 1991 or a Mil Spec Springfield 1911. if you mean the 1991 with the parkerize and/blue finish. i got a LNIB 1991A1 in 45acp last year and it shoots fine. i havent benched it, but it ate all of the ball i fed it. recently i p/u the same in 9mm but havent tried it yet. BTW. im not sure youre aware, but the 1911 was designed to shoot FMJ Ball ammo. yes, they can shoot HPs too but it would be a crap shoot if it did. Most of the time some work has to be done so you get a good feeding and or the gun was originally designed to shoot HPs. if you havent tried any FMJs thru you AO 1911, then you may want to try. |
This may have been true 40 years ago, but any 1911 you buy nowadays will adequately feed HP. No worries here. It's always a good idea to shoot your carry ammo through it just to check though (regardless of make or model). |

With the average Colt 1991 you tyipcally can expect. -Boring reliability. -A looser fit frame that rattles when you shake it, just like Colt has always made them and just like John Browning designed them to be. -Warm fuzzies thinking about the history and legacy revoling around the Colt you are holding in your hand. I will not lie, I like Colt 1911's because of their history. But as a bonus they typically look great, shoot great and are reliable. |

I bought a 1991A1 17 years ago and it is a very good pistol and the price was right. I used this pistol until abought 4 years ago when I bought a Kimber TLE. Gave the 1991A1 to my son and he still shoots the .45 with great skill and never a malfunction. I'd have to say the Colt 19991A1 that I had ( was and still is ) a quality pistol. I will also tell you that the Kimber is the best pistol that I own and it is an awesome quality weapon. If I had to only take one pistol with me I would choose the .45. If my life depended on it no doubt I would choose the Kimber .45 IMHO good luck on making a choice. |
