| How do u know when to replace the barrel? When all the rifling is gone! |
|
You need to start thinking about replacing the barrel when: You've neglected the bore and it's rusted or pitted badly. The gun no longer shoots accurately. The barrel has a defect like bulges, rings, cracks, or is otherwise defective. Modern pistol barrels usually last a life time, and very seldom need replacing. Automatic barrels can often be replaced by the owner, AS LONG as the replacement is sold as a "drop-in" barrel, and even then they often need some fitting. Revolver barrels are replaced ONLY by the factory or a QUALIFIED pistolsmith. Revolver barrels are hand fitted items, and require extensive custom fitting. These are NEVER "drop-in" and attempting to do it without the extensive tooling is a fast way of ruining the frame. |
