I have my first 1911 with front serrations and they drag leather. this sucks. the doggone things are hard on the leather and hard on the draw. whats the cure?

Uh, get a slide without them?

They don't serve any useful purpose anyway.

UH, I believe a cure is as easy as handing the slide to a machinist and having the offending serrations simply removed. Nicely radiused, yeah, thats the ticket.

Good idea.  You could have the whole front edge of the slide milled down like Browning Hi-Powers or the Wilson Compacts.

You could switch to a synthetic holster.  For a race gun perhaps they have some merit, but I have never seen a need for them on a defensive pistol. Race gun holsters seem to be a more open design where these would not cause a problem.  On a combat gun, perhaps synthetic materials will not so easliy get caught in them.

I thought the front serrations are for the bad guy to hold on to so recoil can be controlled while you empty the mag into his chest. I don't have them on my Colt so it must be an option I missed out on, or maybe Colt didn't think you needed to be that close.
