I have a full size govenment SS Colt 1911.  When I shoot it I swear the slide is in slow motion.  I mean I can actually feel it go back and forward.  If I pull the trigger again nothing happens until the slide is back forward.  I cleaned it, it sped up for a while then slowed down again.  WTF!

Is your thumb against the slide?

Ok smarty!  No tar, I used RemOil.   So its good stuff with teflon.  No finger or thumb against the slide.  Its like in slomo.

How many rounds through the gun?

Is this slow motion with or without a Mag in place?

While stripping live ammo or cycling empty?

Old new gun. Very few rounds through it.  Less then 200.   Cycling slow while shooting with mag in place.  Cycling without shooting feels fine.

Make sure it is Remoil not Remclean they look the same but rem clean has an abrasive for cleaning rifle bores. i had a freind who was using remclean as a lube in a S&W revolver action. The more you fired it the stiffer it got

My new Colt WWII reproduction does this to some extent, but not to the extent that I notice it affecting the next shot.  I can feel the weight of the slide moving aft and foreward such that it moves (rocks) the hand.  It's weird.  Other than haveing a spur hammer, I don't know any difference between this and other 1911s I have.

Maybe I am just used to shooting 9mm so long that I expect a sharp return of the slide.   But its interesting to feel the slide move back and forth.

There is nothing dragging/interfering with the slide?

How many rounds have you shot thru your gun?  Could it be that the recoil spring has weakened over the years.  I would suggest you replace it with a Wolf spring.

Actually, Bro, you just have SERIOUSLY GOOD Kung Fu.

I have this same problem.....the more you shoot a 1911 in .45, the more you notice it.....the reason for it is that you have developed AWESOME SKILLS.  You are on the route to becoming a 1911Ninja!!!!!  You are one with the gun, Baby!!!!

Hint: pop in a CP Shock Buff ( make sure to buy the CP brand ) and a Wolff 18.5 lb spring.  If you are using a collet bushing, dump it for a standard...and if you are using a sull length guide rod, also order a standard GI spring guide and plug while you are at it.

This will help you develope your 1911Ninja skills more fulfillingly.
we need a ninja smilie

Desert, do you mean the rod that sticks out when the slide is retracted?  Mine doesnt do that.  Its short and when you pull the slide back it doesnt show at all.  But I am really tempted to send the gun to a lady named Marianne Carniack to get it tuned.  Maybe thats the best option.  Its got that plastic trigger that really bugs me anyway.

Don't sweat that plastic trigger.....I ONLY use the Colt nylon triggers, if that makes you feel any better.

You definitely have the GI recoil spring guide and plug setup, so your totally set there....just grab a wolff 18.5 and some CP buffs and you'll be good to go.  and if that trigger really does bug ya go ahead and get an aluminum one...without the overtravel set screw, if you can fins one like that.....

You can! ...find one like that here:  Burns Hard Use Trigger  It's one of my favorite triggers.  I have three installed

When it's  cleaned and dry, what does the slide feel like on the frame...smooth or scratchy?

Scratchy means it needs some smoothing, if it' smooth, what lube are you using on the slide...and maybe you need a little more to get the slide-frame fit "worked in".

Some new guns reportedly have weak recoil springs. Buy a few different weight Wolff Recoil springs and try them out.
If you are running shock buffers..try removing them.

It may just need more rounds down the chamber for break-in. Also, are you shooting standard 230 gr fmj's or handloads?

The 1911 is a uniquely engineered balancing act between recoil, slide weight-rcoil spring weight. Change ammo....change springs..chnage the way the slide works on the frame...and it's all tied together in beautifull balance when it works right.

did you put an "H" buffer in it?
