| Recently saw one at a local gunshop. It maybe available if a buyer backs out. Anyone hve any experience wih them? Good or bad. Thanks in advance. |
A few years ago I was looking at 45LC SAAs and checked out the Cowboy as well as EAA Bounty Hunter, many others. The EAA was the best out of the box action hands down (Pacemaker not included due to price). The Cowboy I thought was stiff and had 3--insted of the 4 clicks we Colt freeks love. I have read just a day or 2 ago that the Cowboy is very easy to tune/smooooth out and is a very well made gun. I'd buy one now, if I had not just laid some cash out (Sunday) for a Colt Defender! How much do they want? IMHO .02 Best of luck, GTD |
Dang, I hope Colt made my "Colt Defender"!--------------oh well its sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet anyway. Does the Cowboy have any tell-tail markings there or omitted to know it was OEM'd by another mfgr? |
AFAIK, it is only the Cowboy that Colt has subbed out. I want to say Urberti made them but I'm not certain. I guess one could say the Double Eagle was sorta subbed out as Colt didn't make the lower? |

As I said, I have read some good things about them and would buy if I had the cash------ |

I got my Dad one in .45 Colt for Father's Day last year. It is a beautiful revolver, it locks up tight and has a good clean trigger pull. He is a big John Wayne fan, so I got him a J.W. style cartridge loop belt and holster to keep it in. Sorry I can't give you an accuracy report. Despite repeated requests, he refuses to shoot it, just wants to fondle it. |
Get back to me when you can type in legible language that isn't Ebonics or some shit. And the Cowboy isn't made by Colt, never was, never will be. Why do you think it's so much cheaper than their other SA's? Mexican labor? |

I never heard that Colt subbed out the Cowboy. I had heard from a Colt rep that Colt management could never get the quality control to where they wanted it and still meet their target price point. So in the end Colt simply dropped the entry level offering. Given that US Firearms is right across Hartford from Colt and makes a quality low cost offering of the Peacemaker in Colt`s original factory , I would think subbing it out would be relatively simple matter. BTW, I think the Single Action Army is $1200-1500 because it`s a custom shop gun and still receives a lot of hand fitting. Also if the WW I repo is an indication, Colt also doesn`t skimp on the finish. It that regard they are a victim of their own success. What maybe acceptable from Ruger, Uberti, or other clone manufacturers, isn`t acceptable from a Colt product. |
The dealer is waiting to hear back from the original buyer. Apparently, he`s starting to jerk him around. I`m next in line. |
Turns out the owne of the gun who was selling it NIB ( I guess that would be warranty

Sorry to hear. Well my fingers are crossed and if I see another I'll let you know asap. best of luck, GTD |

Contrary to popular belief, the Cowboy was NOT "subbed out". Colt intended to have the raw, unfinished receiver made in the Czech Republic, but it's unsure if this ever actually happened. ALL other parts were made at Colt. Evidence of this: A former colleague was given a tour of the Cowboy production line back when it was still being produced. |
| Colt Cowboy would not be my first choice for SAA but it is definately not my last either, and if I came across one in the right price range I woudl grab it. Pretty much the only game in town up here is Uberti and original Colts.... Own both, shoot them alot, but still woudl like other options |

I picked one up a year ago or so - fired around 500 rounds through it so far and it's great!! It doesn't have any markings that detract from "Colt" stuff on it - a decent finish for the price - and the best part - I bought it to shoot, carry around camp, get dirty, get wet and keep shooting without cringing at doing it with a 1300+ gun. It rides in a holster, shoots about 2" high at 25 yards and is a great gun - locks up tight, good trigger and indexes properly unlike the old Rugers for unload/loading... I'd buy another if the right deal came along |
| 25 bucks an hour? wooptdoo! if a skilled gunsmith/craftsman cant make more than that.whats the point of havig a skill? poor people dont hire anyone rich people do!and last. blame the lowly gunsmith for making 25 bucks or so an hour.dont blame colt for marking up their product 50 percent?? 100 percent more ?? |
