I'm wondering if any of you own, or did own a Colt Defender in the .40 cal.  It seems to me that this model wasn't very popular, even worse, had reliability issues.  I'm curious what problems, if any did you have and were you ever able to overcome them.  Mine has displayed both FTF and FTE on several occasions.  I currently have the gun at a local smith attempting to remedy the troubles.  I really like the comfort of this particular gun.  Both for concealment and firing.  And it is very accurate, when it works!  If all else fails, I may consider converting to .45, but that will be a bit more expensive than what I'm attempting right now.  Any input is greatly appreciated.

I didn't have a defender, but I'm sorry to say I had a full sized enhanced series 80 in .40 back in 1994.  In the year and a half I owned it, it made the journey to Hartford 4 times.  It NEVER got through a full mag without multiple ftf or fte, no matter what type or brand of ammo I tried.  (over 1000 rds of fmj, hydroshocks, even black talons).  No fix or explanations why the slide would lock back on a full mag, no fix or explanations why the pistol wouldn't feed or extract.  (It was suggested that my problems were operator error--grip wrong and limp wristing.  Funny that my problems never happened on any of my other 1911s and MANY thousands of rounds)

I sold that gun and have pretty much sworn off pony products unless bought solely with the idea of building on. (I've learned a lot more about the 1911s since then, and I'm confident I could make that gun into a great shooter now)  I wasn't impressed with the total unreliability of a brand spanking new $800 pistol, and I was pretty damn upset at the lack of effort from customer service.  I know that every company puts out a lemon now and then, but they'll usually do SOMETHING to remedy the situation--my experience with Colt showed me that they weren't terribly concerned with customer satisfaction, and therefore don't want any more of my money.

Y'all can flame away, but please remember--I'm not saying that Colt products all suck.  I'm just relaying my experience with them.

it is rare to find a 40 cal 1911 type that will feed factory ammo 100% of the time. You  usally have to load the bullets a bit long to slove the FTF problems.
