| So in narrowing down my search for the first 1911 and am tossing up the idea of getting a Combat Elite. Can you all give me the run down on the gun? The good and the bad. Are there any MIM parts that need replaced? Any upgrades that the gun needs? |

Last i heard Colt used like 3 MIM parts. Disconnector mag catch and thumb safety i think. And a plastic MSH. Would love to get one as the 2 tone is a beauty. The two tone is sexy as hell. A LGS has one but it is on layaway. They let me look at it and I was very impressed. Let's hope they can get another. The other benefit, I could smooth out my first and only idiot scratch on one easier

Had one, sold it - I liked it but wasn't a huge fan of the S80 setup...also, I'm pretty sure Colt sharpens the edges on the slide before they ship as mine would peel strips of leather when holstering it Besides I had a 1911 off at Colt's Custom Shop getting their tactical package, so I didn't really strictly need a 2nd 1911 set up nearly like that one.
About the only things I would do to it would be have it dehorned and maybe swap the Novaks out for Novak night sights (IIRC they weren't night sights on mine) Otherwise it was a nice 1911. |
| Get the original combat elite and problem solved...no MIM parts. My department actually used to carry the MKIV Combat Elites, god they were beautiful. Gently loved MKIV elites can be had on GB for very fair prices compared to the new XSE ones. Higher quality parts and fitting from the golden age of Colt too... |

Colt is now turning out some of the best they have ever made. You make good points...however - I wasn't starting another MIM parts thread. The OP specifically asked about MIMed parts on a Combat Elite. My response of getting the original was simply offering him a very appealing and economical solution. I don't disagree with you on your second point sir...the Colt's I've seen lately are very nice. You may still argue, but I still get a tingly feeling when I hold an older 70 or MKIV though. Maybe I'm just being sentimental. |

Couple of questions Are the MKIV's series 70 or 80? What do you mean by "original" |

Not sure there's any downside to a Colt Combate Elite except the ones you would impose aesthetically. It's a very fine pistol. With proper care, you'll be listing it in your estate. And, there will be a lot of argument among your family & heirs about who's going to take it home. If you have patience and can afford the extra $$ ...NO reservations whatsoever! CSG. http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k11/Kevyn_53/IMG_1479_zps3889f11c.jpg Damn I love that gun tell me more about it? Post more pics if you have them. Please tell me it’s a 70 series? |

It's an 80 series firing system. No problems with trigger pull. It's clean & crisp out of the box. Never had any problems with an 80 series. The CSG come from the Colt Custom Shop. Just happened to luck into that one. The concealed carry is produced in fewer numbers. Much easier to find one with adjustable target sights. The Novak carry sight is their extreme duty and it's about as adjustable as I'd need for a pistol as well fitted as the CSG. The fit & finish is remarkable. Beautiful all the way around. I had a choice between the CSG and the Marine CQB. Obviously the CSG came home. I've actually only found one other concealed carry CSG for sale. Two tone and it was long gone by the time I got the seller on the phone. They're out there, just a little harder to find and I think Colt has a pretty short production run. Low demand, high price, high labor time. |
