| Hi, have been looking at Gen III SAA....I know what I want it to look like...but I wonder if single peice grips can be fitted to it? Anyone have any ideas? |

There are grip makers who can do one piece for Colt SAA's. Here's one person who does it. Click on "Our Colt and Ruger grips" and then halfway down, you'll see they offer one piece grips. |

Each, individual grip frame is a little bit different. So, grips must be hand fitted to each gun. That's actually what Colt's does in the production of the pistols –– they hand fit the rubber grips to each gun. Grips are serial numbered.
The best guy for one piece grips is Joe Perkins at Outlaw Grips. He works in all materials, but does some killer walnut for the authentic crowd. He is an artist and perfectionist and you will be more than happy if you get grips from him. Be advised, the term "one piece grip" is somewhat a misnomer. The grips are fitted to each side of the grip frame, then they are bonded to a fitted block that references the correct thickness of the frame. So they appear as one piece when fitted to the gun, but are actually initially assembled from three pieces. The good grip maker will book match the two sides to enhance the "oneness" of the finished product. I have some one piece grips on a pair of USFA SAs and they are too pretty to shoot. Just gorgeous. |
