Walther Owners - Have your Walther ever failed you?
3/12/2010 11:39:23 AM EDT
[#1]
P22 - just random FTE's with ammo it decided it didn't like
3/12/2010 11:39:42 AM EDT
[#2]
2 Walther P-99's

8-16 round Smith mags

4-18 round extended factory Smith mags

4 factory 10-round mags

and 20 converted Checkmate Beretta M9 mags.

About 2000 rounds through one gun, maybe 500 or so through the other with a newer female shooter.

Never any kind of failure......ever.

I will take my P-99 to my grave.

P38 = No

P1 = No

PPS = No
3/12/2010 1:32:01 PM EDT
[#4]
P99 - no
P99 compact - no
PPS - couple of times when brand new, now flawless
P22 - only from using gummy subsonic ammunition with a lot of lube on it
P38 - no problems

Edited to add:

PPK (Interarms) - no
PPK/S (Smith and Wesson) a complete loss, would not function or feed, traded immediately.

I am on my second P22.
I did most of the mods on
both of them. The first one,
black and green would not
reliably run Remington bulk
box ammo. CCI Mini Mags
were 100%. My second is
a black frame with Nickel
slide. It will run the bulk
ammo 100%.

I have only had my P99 out
to shoot twice for maybe
100 rounds, but it's 100%,
so far.

I really like both of them a lot.

John

I currently own:

7 P99     .40's
1 P99C  .40
1 P99      9mm

All have worked flawless, with quite a few 1000's of rounds fired..

2 P22's

With a couple of 1000 of rounds fired, I've had a handful of FTF, nothing major...

ETA: Almost forgot... my first handgun was a P88... same as above, no problems

Walther makes a good handgun I wish they were still making an all steel 22lr pistol or PPK/s in 22lr but those days are gone.

maybe 100 rds through my PPS .40SW - 1 FTF with an inexperienced shooter, no worries
3/16/2010 11:27:11 AM EDT
[#15]
P22 = problematic jammamatic turd
PPK = Rear sight fell off before first magazine was empty.  Would not go back on, so the gun was returned to store.

[#16]
p38

no
3/16/2010 4:32:47 PM EDT
[#17]
PPS 9 - no

Owned my PPS for about 2 weeks with 300 rouns thru it of a mix of FMJ, JHP, 147gr, 115 gr, etc.
3/19/2010 7:50:48 PM EDT
[#18]
9mm all German P99...no failures to date.....way too many rounds to count 1000+.........never cleaned it once.....
3/21/2010 7:27:49 PM EDT
[#19]
My S&W stainless PPK went back thrice for the same thing - they replaced the hammer the first and second time, and when recalled they fixed the plunger that wasn't machined right. In the first two cases the slide locked at 2/3rds battery, and it took two people (gunsmith, me) to get it back open safely.

And the frame peens like something fierce - it must be made of 420 stainless or something like that.
4/3/2010 1:02:36 PM EDT
[#20]
Mauser P38 and Interarms PPK/S = no problemo
4/4/2010 5:51:19 PM EDT
[#21]
Only problem I ever had was buying a PPK with a worn out extractor.  Even then the gun would still eject most of a magazine and shoot damn good.  My .22lr PPK and my P99 and even my P-38 were all reliable and accurate.
4/7/2010 2:33:45 PM EDT
[#22]
My P5 didn't like firing 200 rounds of aluminium cased ammo, but it shot .32 OK, just no ejection. (PS, Its a 9mm.)
4/9/2010 4:31:46 PM EDT
[#23]
My PPS .40 had one stovepipe on the last round out of the mag in the first 50 rounds and the last 400 or so have been flawless.
4/12/2010 5:42:59 PM EDT
[#24]
P99 no failures
P22 picky with ammo and occasionally will lock up if the barrel retention nut works loose
4/17/2010 8:33:35 AM EDT
[#25]
W German (1979) Walther PP in 22LR  ... broken firing pin.   Local 'smith fixed it right up.

Stay safe

[#26]
ok, here is an update on my PPS. I have had it just over a month. Well over 1000 rounds. No issues. Yesterday, i took a private Self Defense Handgun class. About 7 hours and 500 rounds. The PPS was flawless. No FTFs, no FTE, not 1 issue.
5/13/2010 6:03:59 PM EDT
[#27]
I actually had my p22 firing pin break while shooting one day....iv never heard of this happening to any one before Took 6 god damn months to get a new one cause walther was out of stock and needed to get one from Germany
5/13/2010 6:52:12 PM EDT
[#28]
P-38 - loaded chamber indicator related james- fixed
PP .32 - no issues
TPH -22 typical .22 issues.
5/15/2010 4:07:31 AM EDT
[#29]
9mm PPS –– 100% thru 800 rds. of various fmj and jhp ammo.
5/15/2010 5:14:10 AM EDT
[#30]
PPK/S - No. So far it has ran flawless with a few different types of ammo

P99 in 40 S+W - Last time I brought it out after loading up one of the mags and firing about 3 rounds the floor plate on the magazine broke and all of the internals and the rest of the ammo fell out while I was shooting. I contacted Walther about it sometime last January or so. I have a new retaining plate but supposedly the floor plates were something like 6 months back ordered as I have yet to receive them.
5/15/2010 6:06:24 AM EDT
[#31]
New PPS 9mm, 2nd round jammed, now flawless.

80's Interarms PPK/S .380, JAMOMATIC.
5/21/2010 4:13:16 AM EDT
[#32]
PK380. 50 rounds. Other than being greasy as shit, no issues.
5/21/2010 6:30:53 AM EDT
[#33]
P22, only had some crappy Remington Ammo split the case in the chamber and needed a pusher to get it out.  Otherwise, it's great
5/21/2010 6:53:08 AM EDT
[#34]
P99 .40   Had the little metal nub on the sear block break off.   It's what forces the trigger bar down as you pull the trigger.  Called S&W and sent it out.  Had it back in 7 days fixed free of charge and the 7 days included a weekend.   Great cust service.
5/21/2010 6:01:19 PM EDT
[#35]
I have about 500 rounds through a S&W PPKS.  No peening on the frame.  I had a couple of failures to fully come into battery in the first 20-30 rounds (normal break in issues) but it has been flawless since with round nose FMJ's, trunacated cone flat point FMJ's and three different types of hollow points.
5/25/2010 9:47:53 AM EDT
[#36]
2 PPK/S - 1 was perfect (unfortunately sold), 2nd one jams at the mere hint of limp wristing.
1 P99 .40 - not one problem
1 PPS 9mm - not one problem
4/10/2011 4:14:29 PM EDT
[#37]
P22- a couple of FTE & FTF before finding the right ammo
PK380- 0
P99- 25 FTF & FTE, box of shitty Rem's(FN)

EDITED: sorry, it was .40 (FN) Win's and not the Rem's    , the (FN) Rem's work
4/11/2011 10:26:34 AM EDT
[#38]
P99 - no issues after break in (durring break in I discovered it didn't like one type of hollowpoint).  2000+ rounds later and only one fail to feed which was clearly a 9mm round which wasn't to spec and wouldn't even fit in the chamber.

Borrowed a PPS, and immediately jammed it (probably limp wristed it).  Much less room for error in that design.

Help the rest of us out. Which brand was giving you an issue? Can you use this type/brand now reliably?

P99 AS 9mm

The first 1000 rounds were flawless then I started to get multible FTE's. I recalled I never removed the ejector and cleaned it and behind it. And there was a lot of powder fouling mixed with lubricant gumming up the ejectors movement after I cleaned it out It has not skipped a beat since.

I can't blame the gun for my negligence.

My PPS may be my favorite pistol ever.  CAN'T WAIT to try the new PPQ.
4/14/2011 7:30:11 AM EDT
[#42]
My PK 380 malfunctioned a bit after about 200 rounds....the safety lever would "walk" off the fire position.  After filing down the lever bases slightly to get a firmer seat, it has been flawless for another 500 or so rounds.  I won't be fully confident until I get about 2000 through it, but I think it's GTG.  The PPK/S I used to own never malfunctioned.  Ever.  Never should have sold it

and about the ppk, you are right! should have kept it!

I sold it to get a P7M8.  So it's all good.  Still wish I had it, though.

I had the same problem. First they sent me new floor plates. Then they replaced my mags with high cap mags. After starting to use the new mags the dents in the primers of spent shells is funny looking. Kind of elongated.  Has anyone else seen this?

I didn't know you were into Walthers.  When did this start?  I really want to try one out.  I'm also thinking the PK380 could work for my wife.  Or for me for that matter.  But I think I'd prefer a P99.  Or I don't know what the deal is with the PPQ.  Meaning what makes it different.  It looks so similar to the P99.

PPS-9  Nope.  Carry it with me almost everywhere

PPK/S - Nope.

P22 - After reading the P22 Bible and making appropriate mods, nope.

Love my Walthers.

First generation 9mm P-99 purchased in 2001:  Two FTFs due to factory ammo being out of spec.  Total round counts is several thousand rounds
PPS 9 mm - Several FTEs in first 200 rounds
I put 300 rounds though these two pistols last week and both ran like a champ.  It had been awhile since I shot these pistols and I forgot how much I enjoyed firing these pistols.
5/6/2011 2:23:11 PM EDT

My PPS 9mm has never failed me, but my Interarms PPK jammed like hell (as did a Smith one I rented).

I've had it over a year now, about 2000 rounds and still now issues. It is my EDC and i trust it thoroughly.
