..I am asking for a friend since I dont own a Walther, but if memory serves..didnt someone make a laser dot sight that replaced the recoil guide rod?...and IIRC didnt they suck or?......

Lasermax makes laser guide rods. I don't know if they make a P99 version. I have no experience with their products. Seems solid though. Fits a standard holster.

According to the product listing on the Lasermax website; no Walther specific units are manufactured by them (none listed).

Laserlyte made a laser specific for the P99, fitting on the frame.

Is your P99 a late style or early style frame??     Lasermax is a NO.  
 There are some cheap versions for the late rail but they do not hold POA/POI very well.    Go to the    Walthers forum and there is lot of information there.  I will edit some in here later.
