| I have been looking into getting the P99 and I just read about the XDm. Looks like a lot of the features are the same between the two (minus the two external safeties on the XDm). I am looking for feedback from users who have shot both. What did you like and what did you not like? Which one would you recommend. Thanks! |

I had a P99 .40 and got my rounds on the paper. Couldn't shoot consistently for some reason. I know it was me but couldn't figure out what it was.
Shot a rental XD Service in .40 and found it a lot easier to shoot than the P99. I was actually consistent, low to the right, but consistently low to the right. So I sold my P99 and got my own XD Service .40. I find the recoil of the XD more manageable than the P99. That's my opinion so it's worth exactly that |

I have a true Walther P99 that is 9mm, I have a SW99 that is in 45 I have a 45c XD.
I love them all for different reasons, I really love the features of the Walther and Walther/Smith same as the XD Plus a decocker. I love the extra safety on the XD and the larger ammo capacity.. Shooting wise, they are very, very close. |

Quoted: Unlike the XDm, the Walther has a very short trigger reset. The Walther is very reliable, accurate and will be easier to conceal than the XDm. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq64/LowSpeedHighDrag/IMG_3081.jpg Here's mine The P99 has the two stage trigger, no? |

The P99 QA is like a Glock trigger. The P99 AS can be fired single action, very similar to the XD trigger, but with a short reset. You have the option to decock the gun, making the first shot double action with the followup shots single action. |

My P99 is a wonderful pistol
I have fired several mags thru a friends XDm... The P99 fits me better, it is quicker on target, and easier to manipulate... The XDm is easier in recoil and shoots a little tighter in rapid fire, but is not as quick The best observation is that when I shoot both slow for bulls-eye the p99 is more accurate. |

I Own the XD9, I have handled the XDm 9mm, and the P99 100's of times. But I have never fired the XDm or P99.
With that said by FAR the P99 is the most comfortable, it just fits where BOTH the XD and XDm are blocky. I honestly didn't notice much if a difference in feel from the XD to the XDM, but I havent tried the different backstraps on the XDm. Even with the different backstraps on the XDm it's still a blocky frame. The P99 has a MUCH more comfortable contoured frame. I went with the XD9 because it was $450 vs $699 for the P99, but I WANTED the P99 and STILL want to get a P99. The XDm has a better barrel than the origional XD, it now has a match grade barrel, so It may shoot even better than the origional XD. My XD9 is far more accurate than me. Someday I will own a P99, but I wont sell my XD either. -Masta |
