Here is my purchase choice next gun purchase:  P99, .40 cal , OD/black - I like the following:
DA/SA
Ease of disassembly - the pads in lieu of the Glock "spikes"
the charge pin indicator
the large large decock button
the good looks of the OD/black finish
the feel of the gun and pointability
the caliber

What say you?!

It's cheaper to buy the 9mm and enlarge the bore with a .451" drill bit.  Or fire-form the barrel by shooting a .45-70 through it.

.45 cal? What, sw P99? Saw one. Looked just like a walther but wasn't. Trigger pull was rough, too. Or is there a walther .45 cal, P99 I haven't heard of? It was the P99 I like. ht I've seen your posts and respect your opinion. What do you suggest in a .45 cal?

Yep, the one & the same.

Er, no, it has S&W on the slide.

Trigger pull was rough, too.
It isn't on mine. I tried the Walther versions by dry firing, I couldn't tell any difference.

Nope, Walther doesn't make one. Don't ask me why?

I've seen your posts and respect your opinion.
You would be the first one then.

What do you suggest in a .45 cal?
I've owned SIG, Glock, H&K, Springfield & S&W, all in .45acp semis. I got rid of the Sig & Glock. If you want a 1911, I'd go with Springfield. If you just want a .45acp, I'd go with H&K.

You did good. I've got the same one you described above. Although mine is low mileage, I've had zero malfunctions to date. All in all it has had less than 100 rounds through it and it is my CCW. Are you getting the old style square trigger guard or the new style rounded out trigger guard? The new style looks like this:
Notice the larger serrations on the slide. I do like this new feature.

Edited for clarity.

The only complaint I have about my P99 (9mm) is the mag release. I don't dislike it enough to want to carry anything else, but it could be improved. If I were to offer a design change suggestion it would be slightly wider pads on the mag release. Other than that, I love everything about it. It really does shoot nice. Trigger will always probably be a little 'different' than others, but they do smooth out some.

I don't think you could go wrong with your choice. I've never owned a .40 cal, so can't comment on that, but the whole caliber discussion is a separate issue.

I've owned both the .40 cal and the 9mm. I bought the 40 because I didn't think I could get hicaps for it. I bought the 9 when i realized i could.

My 40 jammed all the time. I think it was because the feed ramp wasn't polished like the 9mm was. Never had a prob with the 9, it was flawless.

The 40 seemed like it was firing a round that was a little too hot for the frame.

I sold the 9 because after 2000 rounds I still hated the trigger. I thought I would eventually get used to it, but it broke me. Spoooongy!

The mag release was VERY stiff, on both guns. But it is a beautiful pistol. BTW, I had the square trigger guard.

I would not advise you to buy this pistol. It is beautiful, it is made by a good company, it holds 16+1, but I absolutely hated shooting it. It shoots unlike any pistol I have ever shot.

However, if it comes down to the P99 or a glock, for god sakes...get the P99. I would recommend the USP 40 however.

Hope this helps

The mag release is easier manipulated with your index finger rather than the thumb.

Okay, in Springfield 1911 I like the Champion. The size and caliber are appropriate for a carry weapon.  You don't like Kimber, huh?

I don't dislike the Glock, but I understand what you mean. Thanks for the input.

First one I've seen!  Great look! Looks like a 9mm.  I, too, like the trigger guard and the slide! I note to the new AS markings for Double/single. Thanks for the pic. I've set it along side my (earlier) other pictures of P99's.

I have a P99 DA/SA in .40 Titanium Edition and it is freaking sweet.
If I didn't have a H&K, the P99 would definately be my primary pistol.

So you did good. People will give you crap about it being a "Tonka Gun" but they're just jealous.

+1 It is my preferred method, so much so I am thinking of getting the release on my 1911 reversed.

That's the way I always did it.
To use your thumb you had to turn the pistol sideways just to get enough leverage.

I don't know about index finger. I use my middle finger.

+1 here.  My index finger is alongside the frame of the gun during a mag drop.  Probably because of my long monkey fingers.

Thanks for all the input.  I fired a .40 P99 (a rental at the range 60 miles away) and loved it.  Will probably make my purchase in the next month or so. I'm very excited.

I have checked them out. I think they are sharp! Have not fired one though. They didn't have one to rent at the range. The XD has made the decision much harder. Since you brought it up, what do you like about the XD40?

Everyone has an opinion, but mine is that the P99QA is awesome.  I've been using a Steyr S9, Glock 22, and Colt Commander as carry guns.  After purchasing and shooting the P99QA, it has become my regular companion.  The complaint I had with the P99's trigger pull that caused me to sell it is gone.  The QA has a sweet consistant pull and is a very fine fit for my hand.  As always, YMMV.
