I picked up a true Walther P99 at the gun show Saturday for $440. The SN is 0438#0. This SN is located on the barrel as well as the slide, and the previous owner told me it's numbers matching all original. Either this gun was well taken care of, or he really only put 8-10 magazines through it. There was no carbon build up anywhere. I have a few questions about this gun.

1.) Where can I find night sights to replace the ones on it?

2.) Where can I find a light/laser for this model?

3.) What more can I be told about this weapon?

4.) What essential spare parts should I keep for this weapon?

I picked up an AS a couple of years ago for $500, and I thought
that was a smokin deal, but you got a great buy. I would buy
another one if I found one in that price range in a heartbeat.

Midwayusa has nihht sights.

Earls for the laser.

P99 can use Mec-Gar +2 baseplates. SW99 mags with the baseplate make an 18 rnd mag. Beretta 92 mags can be easily modified to work 100%.  Fobus holsters will tear up the finish on the slide. The Gen2 mag release is better.  You missed the days of cheap mags.

10 years, 2 guns, lotsa rounds....never needed a spare part.

Wow very informative. I truly appreciate it. My fiance calls this her gun, and I let her have the satisfaction of calling it that even though it's always within arms reach of me.

I couldn't find the laser or the light that mounted to the rail on first generation P99s. I only saw magazine mounts and 2nd generation open rail laser/lights.

Any help?

My input:

1. Promag = cheap CRAP (my opinion)

2.  I honestly have never held one of these extended type mags in my hand so #3 is a bit of an educated guess.  But, It's also the reason I've never had one.

3. The magazine catch on the P99 is angled.  Meaning it holds the magazine from "falling out".  Upward movement of the magazine it held by the floorplate coming in contact with the bottom of the grip.
By using an extended magazine like the Promag there will be nothing to keep the magazine from traveling upward.....until the feedlips hit the ejector.  A heavy strike to the bottom of that mag will toast your ejector, and possibly damage your slide/parts.
You could, If you really wanted to use an extended mag, create a spacer to restrict upward travel.  But I still fell that an SW99 mag with a +2 base would be a more expensive, but better option.

I love my P99s and they been flawless for years, I simply would not jeopardize them on a bad mag choice.

ETA:  I found a picture that appears to have something (a dot/lump)  on the magazine body.  this may be what takes care of #3....and my reason for stating #2.

an1,

Thanks for the input. I have had no luck with
any aftermarket mags, but the price of that one
made me curious.  Excellent insight.

Thanks for the succinct input!

These.

You have to remove the little nerbs at the back of the magwell,
(on the butt of the gun) to make them work. And I made some
angle inserts to lock them on the bottom of the mag, but they
seem perfectly functional, but I have not shot them yet.

I will try to post some pics, tonight, but I don't know if I can
swing that, or not. If I can't it will Sunday or Monday night.

Just to CMA, Please check your local laws...

If you buy a quality German pistol such as this, do yourself a favor and only use factory Walther mags.  I would rather have 2-3 magazines that I know are perfect and well made than 10 of the pro-mags. No offense to anyone, but the weakest link in any firearm is always the magazine.  The whole allure for me with the P99 is pride of ownership having a fine German auto-pistol....why muck it up with cheap mags?

Just my two cents....

BTW...I own an original P99 (pre-AS) in 9mm and I have shot it maybe 1000 rounds with no feed jams or issues.  As long as you use quality ammo (no russian or CCI blazer) and use factory mags you can't go wrong.

A fun thing to do is to go shoot the P99 then go home and clean it while watching Casino Royale with Daniel Craig.  The ultimate P99 movie...

Enjoy

Here's the Mec-gar +2.  Twice the price,  but i love em.

Mec-gar +2

A word of caution.....when I put the +2 on a 16rnd mag, 18 go in nicely and with a little pressure i can get in 19.  I did that by accident once, then the added pressure of putting it in the pistol......gun was holstered, baseplate blew off, launched it, and the spring in my kitchen.  Dumped all thethe ammo.  Got lucky it just hit the wall.

The +2's work great but dont overload the plastic

These Walthers are diseased. I just purchased a 2011 P22 today for $240. So now I have a 2001 P99 9mm and a 2011 P22. I almost bought another P99, but the black rifle disease made me trade one of my 5.56 ARs for a 22 AR plus some cash. How many Walther's will I end up owning?

I don't think I will. A compact 9mm has no appeal to me as I live in Texas and don't need a CHL to carry a handgun concealed in my car. I'm only 20, but I keep my AR in the car and live in a rural area so the Police see the Army sticker in the window before I'm pulled over, and the ACU backpack in the passenger seat if they come to the window. All I say is I was at the gunshow, or I was going to the range. Did you go to the Big Town or Lewisville show this weekend Afterwork_Ninja

Also I almost bought the commemorative P99 edition for $795 with the case and such, and even a Walther target pistol, but decided against it for my fiancee's sake.

Nope. I'm from Lubbock.  Coincidentally, I did fly into Dallas Love and back though.

The flight I took from Lawton to Dallas Love Field is the worst flight the military ever funded. Just a bumpy ride
