I have a SS PT709 that I bought new from Buds.  I took possession of the pistol in April and after five or so mags it began to fall out of the pistol during the course of fire.  I verified that I was not actuating the magazine release and found the magazine would fall free from the pistol on its own.  I contacted Taurus and requested a new magazine release be shipped to me for repair.  It took about a week to receive and then install.  I then took another range trip and found the problem was still present.  I contacted Taurus for a return number and FedEx'd the pistol back.  Six weeks later I received the pistol earlier this week and fired one hundred rounds through it today.  Im glad to report that so far it seems to have been fixed.  Mine did not have a problem with the sights as I can shoot point of aim/point of impact at ten to twelve yards which for me is fine for this pistols intended purpose(deep concealment/close range shots).  Sorry for the long post and wasting your time if your not interested.

Mine has been there for 8 weeks now. The PT709 is the last Taurus I'll ever buy. The service sucks. Hope you got yours worked out.

I had one and was quite happy with it, until the recoil spring rod broke.  It had about 400 rounds when it happened. It was sent to Taurus 3 weeks ago and nothing yet..  After that I got rid of my remaining Taurus - a TCP and a 617 revolver.

I recently picked up a PT709 used, traded in a DB380 that self destructed. Been wanting a PT709 since they first came out and almost bought one new several times but seemed to get sidetracked to something else. After trading up I started to regret my decision, I'd read a lot of those posts on Taurus problems in general and wondered if I'd traded in one problem child for another. Who would trade in a GOOD PT709, right? Well, I've only shot about 75 rounds so far from three different types of ammo, Winchester white box, UMC bulk, and some other no-name stuff I had lying around, and no failures. Recoil & accuracy is good, so far I've got nothing bad to say about this gun. The trigger is what I like best, not the best trigger ever, travel is long but in SA mode it's light and when it's ready to break you feel it, it's easy to 'pre-load' the trigger and take up that extra travel when you're shooting for accuracy. In DA mode it's still smooth, much easier than my old Beretta Centurion DAO pistol which took some practice to be accurate. My PT doesn't really fulfill any purpose, I've got my Glock 9mm for range shooting and my Kahr CW45 for carry which is the same size as the PT, but I like it.

My 709 should be at my FFL soon. From what I have read it is either hit or miss on this model.
