Two days ago I bought a used Taurus PT1911.

So I took it out to the range today and put 100rnds through it. I got three rounds that didn't fire. I cleared it and looked at the rounds, all three had a small imprint where the pin hit the very bottom of the round, missing the primer entirely. My guess would be bad magazines, but it's only a guess.

I can't find the exact rounds hat I was using online so I can't show you, by they were MagTech ball. I only got them because the guy I bought it from said that's usually what he used on his 1911's. Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

Are you sure the indentations were not at the TOP ? The barrel rises upwards as the slide goes into battery, so such indentations would indicate firing slightly out of battery. Make sure you lube the gun and shoot a few hundred more rounds to break it in. Also, keep an eye on the slide position: the hammer should not drop with the slide out of battery if the disconnector is working properly, and this can even be dangerous. If it does not run reliably, I would send it back to Taurus for inspection.

It could have been out the top. When it happened the slide did not lock back but stuck about half way, making me think the round was not fully seated before the pin hit. I locked it back by hand and jiggled it untill it seated then carried on so in my clearing of the malfunction if could have turned.

I don't know if it matters, but all three times it was the last round in the mag that did this. After I was done for the day I took it home and stripped and lubed. It was dirty as hell. I'm in the Army so I know what a hundred rounds looks like in a weapon and the carbon suggested it hadn't been cleaned in awhile. When I bought it, it slipped my mind to ask if the guy cleaned his weapons or not.
