Has anyone done penetration testing on the new Federal .410 handgun loads developed specifically for the Judge? Thanks

| I find the box-o-truth to be an entertaining and somewhat informative site... but it is not exactly scientific. When the judge was tested with buckshot on box-o-truth, he cut a 3" shell down to 2.5" and removed a pellet... leaving the shell hacked off at the end. It was quite obvious that the buckshot was dead soft bare lead seeing how the pellets flattened out so easily (surely this reduced penetration). Federal's new 000 Buck shell uses copper-plated hardened shot and powder that is designed to quickly burn in the Judge's short barrel. I have some of both the 000 Buck and #4 shot on hand and hope to have time to do some proper testing with it soon. I am confident that the 000 buck will perform better than what was seen on box-o-truth. I was surprised to see that the #4 shot was actually #4 BIRDSHOT and not #4 buckshot as I was assuming. I certainly would not recommend the #4 birdshot for those who choose to use the Judge as a defensive pistol. Personally I would choose to use my mossberg 930spx or XD45 for home defense and purchased the Judge as more of a plinking and snake/woods gun, but I don't doubt that with 000 buck or .45 colt it would be a decent choice. |
