Just bought this PT1911SS a few weeks ago, great pistol for the price and easily rivals other 1911s that cost twice as much IMHO.  It has definitely impressed me more than my previous Colt m1991a1 GOVT Stainless.  Running 8rnd CMC shooting star mags and a blackhawk serpa holster(until Monday when the lady at the sheriff's office is in and can give me my CCW permit, then I'll be switching to a crossbreed ccw holster).

Anyways, I noticed the recommended FPS for this pistol is 895 and my Double-Taps are 230gr / 1010fps.  Now I don't honestly foresee any issues since the difference isn't that much, but everyone tells me it would be wise to get a heavier spring and add a recoil buffer because shooting the hotter ammo could cause tiny hairline cracks/fractures in the frame and slide, some of which I may not even be able to see with the naked eye.  Wilson offers both for reasonable prices, but I'm stuck on the recoil spring.  I can't find any info on what # rating it is, so I'm unable to know what to upgrade to.  I was thinking it's 16#, others think so as well, and I was going to switch up to an 18#...but I want to be sure this oem spring is 16# before making any purchases.  If it is 16#, would 18# suffice or should I go with a 20#?  I don't want to jump too far ahead with the spring rating, and end up with something I won't like.  I suppose I could even buy the next two up from my current one, since they're not too expensive and would give me 2 options instead of 1.

Also, are there any other recommended parts I should get?  I won't be shooting this pistol frequently, I'm more of a weekend shooter which would still be over exaggerating a bit.  I only shoot wwb 230gr fmj and double-tap 230gr jhp, but if there's any other recommended "preventive maintenance" parts I should know about, I'd appreciate some info on them.

Thanks!

congrats on the pistol, I just bought a pt1911 a couple weeks ago.
not sure about the spring but as far as other parts from what I have read the ambi safety gives some people (maybe 5-10%) problems. other than that, great pistol.

Just traded in this PT1911ss for a PT1911AR(blued).  After some thought, and finding my rail-mount streamlight that I lost 2 years ago, I realized I'd rather have an AR version and the blued steel doesn't show off surface blemishes as much as SS.  Though the SS model was nice, it's too fancy looking for something I'll be CCW-ing.

Anyways, I'm still needing to know what # spring these things have.  I tried calling Taurus and couldn't get through to someone.

Stock is 16. you could go to an 18
I would say Wolf, or Wilson.
Dont know about the buffers, I've heard mixed results on them
