I just bought a new Taurus PT92.  I love it, great shooter so far, but the mags keep slipping out after each shot!!  both mags!  not good.

At first, I thought it was a bad mag catch.  but, it seems to hold pretty tight.  I also thought I was pressing the mag release button, nope.  not it.

I called Taurus, after about 15 mins on hold, the customer service guy answered.  told me to fire another 60 rounds for break in to total 150 through the gun.  His
thinking was that it was a bad catch or bad spring on the release.  Now, the mags are dropping after each and every shot!  both mags.  The decock only works occaisonally,
and the slide will not lock back afte the last shot.  If I palm the gun, all rounds feed and life is wonderful. I should not have to do this!  I thought it may be the rounds in the magazine passing by
and depressing the mag release.  Niope, it happens with 2 rounds or 10 rounds.

they told me they will honor the lifetime warranty.  I assume I can send FedEx?? true??

anyone with similar problems?  resolved by them?  or you?  if so, how.

the problem may well be just 2 bad mags (??)
Not happy with my purchase so far.  Any advice for this fool before I send it back to them in Miami?

If you cycle it by hand does the mag stay locked in? I would try both mags, cycle four or five rounds through it by hand to see if it stays locked in. If it does then I would be willing to say the spring on the mag catch is bad and not holding tight enough for the recoil.

Shoot n nut:

very interesting.  I went to my basement, loaded 4 snap caps into the mag, and cycled the slide.

the mag dropped with the slide cycle! I did this several times, same results!

OK, more specifically, when the slide returns the mag then drops.  does so on the 4th, 3rd, 2nd, but not the
last round.  that last one does not drop the mag.  repeated this several times and confirmed the results.

mags out of spec?  followers screwed up?  what do you think?

mag catch too small?  mag catch spring too weak?
I hate to send my gun to Miami for a mag catch spring thats too weak!
whattya think?

I would probably try another magazine before I sent it back. Check the top of the magazines, does it look like the slide is hitting them and pushing them out? I'd check the hole where the mag catch locks in to the mag also to see if it looks like the mag is being forced past it. Is the magazine catch hard to push? It could have a burr or something not letting it lock in tight also.

Good points. both mags are doing this. The mags look good, no visible signs of forced entry or abrasion that I can see.  The mag release button seems soft, but this is pretty subjective, nothing really good to compare it with.  I did push the other side of the mag button release, thereby forcing the mag catch further in, and then did the recycling thing.  She ran perfectly then.  Mags stayed in place really well and functioned in the correct manner.

Based on your excellent suggestions, it seems the mag catch is short or the spring is soft or binding.

The mag release assembly appears to be staked in.  Kind of a PIA, she will have to go to Miami and they can clean it up or replace it.

You've been a great help.  thanks
