What kind of gun safe will give me biggest bang for the buck. Try the safes and home security forum in the armory section; there's a lot of material there. |

I would start with the local gun shops.
When I was shopping for a safe all my local gun shops had their safes discounted and offered them tax free if you could pick up. They didn't advertise you just had to drive over and take a look. I was able to get a great deal this way. Much better deal than anything I saw at Cabela's or anywhere else. |
| The advised I would give is get one twice as big as you think you need, don't get an electronic lock and bolt it down to the floor. Sometimes you can find a used safe (generally someone moving who doesn't want to transport it or upgrading to something larger) for a good deal. You can have the combo changed and still come out ahead by a good margin. Sometimes gunstores or clubs around here will have a bulletin board for people selling such things. |

check out bear safes, out of okc, ok.
i'm about to buy my second one. as someone above posted, buy at least twice as big as you think you'll need. the guy who put me onto bears has several safes marked for: m-i-l silver, mother's silver, etc... when i got my bear they came in non-fire lined; now they're all fire lined. |
