I recently picked up a SA Mil Spec and only have 1 mag. I was looking around the web and came across Chip McCormick 8rd mags for $10 a piece.

Does anyone have any experience with these mags? My budget is limited so money is a factor.

Thanks in advance.

I have a couple Chip McCormick Power mags and an 8 rnd. Chip McC Shooting Star for my Colt Combat Commander.  I haven't put more than 200 rnds through any of the mags but no problems so far.  I trust the Power mags enough that I use them when I carry.  Hope this helps.

It does. Thanks!

Next question, is there a big need for the 'Pad' or is it just there to assist reloading?

Thanks again

Aids in reloading if you run a mah well (like the Smith and Alexander). It also cushions the mag itself if you drop it on a hard surface such as concrete while training or doing other things.

At $10, not a bad deal.

In my experience, they're leaps and bounds better than the Wilson Combat 47Ds.  The problem with the 47D is the (plastic) followers wear down and fail to hold the slide back.  For me, I bought three of them and within 2000 rounds, rotated with several other magazines, they fairly-consistantly failed to lock the slide back in my Mil-Spec with Wilson Combat Bulletproof slide stop.  For my other gun, they seemed to work fine, but either way, I was far from impressed and will only buy the 8-round Chip McCormick mags in the future.

I have about 10 of the Chip McCormick 10 rounders. I have run about 4 to 5 thousand rounds thru them, with zero mag related stoppages.<-is that even a word.

Good news to hear. I ordered 5 8 rounders for $53. They should be here soon!

Thanks for all the info.

Did you buy Powermags or Shooting Stars (or the shooting star "match grade")?

I've only run the Shooting stars, because they mount flush, which is ideal for CCW, but I think the Powermag looks like it'd have a bit more positive seat when I slammed it in, without a but pad, and I'd assume they put a better follower.

I believe they were Shooting Star. Im not sure if they are match grade. I'll have to check.

Thanks again for the input.

They worked great last weekend at a USPSA match.

Money well spent.

$10 for disposable mags isn't bad.  If you want lifetime mags, get the Wilson mags.

I had several CMCs start to give me trouble (multiple FTF on each mag).  No warranty coverage when I called CMC.

.  I switched to all Wilson mags with LIFETIME warranty coverage right then.  No problems since (going on 12 years now).

I use the CM mags in my colt.  I haven't had a problem with them, although I do have one that don't drop freely any more, but I think that it because it has been repeatedly dropped in the gravel at IDPA matches.  Numbering your mags is a great thing to do so that you can keep track of them in they have problems.
