So I was speaking with the guys at my local gun shop about sights for my HD / carry gun and they recommended Warren Tactical sights with the fiber optic front sight. I piped in about tritium and they said that if it's pitch black you probably shouldn't be pulling the trigger anyway. I thought that was a valid point, so I did some research, found they had great reviews and ordered some.

I had them installed today and I'm not thrilled. Outside or with adequate indoor lighting they are awesome. The problem is that in low / no light situations indoors the front sight completely disappears. I was thinking that once I illuminated the room with my SureFire that the front sight would catch the light and become visible, but it doesn't at all. Even when there is more than enough light to see clearly, the sight is all but black, which makes it even harder to see that stock sights.

Thinking I may give TFO's a try...

Thoughts?

TFOs are nice. Many of my coworkers have them and they're bright in the daylight. I may replace my HD sights with them.

What flashlight technique are you using with a handheld light or are you using a WML?  If you use a neck index handheld light technique, I think you will find the front fiber optic to glow pretty bright.

I use Warren FO Fronts/Rears on my carry guns and in VERY low light, yes, the front looks black.  With any bit of light, I can see the FO Front Red Dot fine.  With a flashlight utilizing neck index lighting, the front dot glows.  You can also experiment with fiber optic colors to see which works best for your eyes.

My wifes m&p9 has Warren Tac sights on it, there ok, not bad, not great.. In low light, the front FO glows a little bit, which is way bettet than the stock sights. BUT, my G19 (EDC) has a HiViz front sight and it is far and away better than the Warren sights, plus the litepipes are interchangeable, and they come with 2 green, 2 white, and 3 orange/red litepipes... I highly recommend HiViz....

Why not just run a tritium front sight anyway? Nothing says you can't (or shouldn't) still have a flashlight. Besides, then it's always glowing regardless of whether you're illuminating your surroundings just right so that your FO catches that light and glows.

The profile on the WT sights is outstanding -- I wouldn't ditch them because a FO front sight isn't doing what a tritium would (and over some incomplete reasoning on the part of the guys at the gun shop).
