A store in my area sells Winchester Ranger .40 S&W JHP in two different grains. 180gr SUBSONIC JHP and 155gr JHP. Which one should I get for SD? This is for my Glock 22 (non-suppressed).

IMHO the whole Advantage of a .40 is bigger ,heavier bullets than a 9mm
or .38

I use 180gr.

Get the 9mm.

If you are stuck with having to use the poorer performing .40 instead of the superior 9mm you can go to the Wichester Law Enforcement testing site and compare different .40.

Launch Testing Comparison Tool

The Ranger he is asking about is not the ammo that you are showing.

Correct.

Follow the comparison link and you can compare all the .40 rounds to each other.

The 180 Grain Subsonic Ranger is the same load as the 180 Grain Personal Defense white Box load that wal mart sells. Its a good load that is sold in Ranger Boxes to appeal to law enforcement and in personal defense white boxes to appeal to citizens looking for a self defense round.

The 155 Ranger load is the Silver Tip load without the decorative nickle plating on the bullet, and is sold to CPB as one of their contracted 155 Grain 40 S&W loads. This loading is one of the the current contract load of Customs and Border Patrol. They launch it out of HK P2000 pistols and seem to be pretty happy with it.

I personally like the 155 Ranger load as currently used by Customs and Border Patrol. I also would not feel ill armed with the 180 grain load. HTH, YMMV

So I guess I did good then. The 155gr is what I am carrying now. I shot up all of my 180gr subsonic Rangers at the range awhile back.
