I am going to be getting some HST ammo and have decided to start using more 147grn ammo, especially for my mid-sized and "large" compact guns. IMO, 147grn JHP's make more sense in a Glock 19 than 124grn +P+ ammo.

Since I cannot get the latest RangerT's for a fair price, I have decided to go with the HST. What do you guys think of the 147grn +P load? Seems like it couldn't hurt, but then again does the extra FPS really matter in a larger load like this? In .45 ACP, I use only standard pressure 230grn JHP as I don't believe the extra pressure does anything than increase recoil.

Also, does anyon have specific information in the construction of the Federal bonded JHP? Is this like say Bonded Golden Sabres, which are essentiall just bonded versions of the original or are they more like the Winchester Ranger which appear to be an entirely different design. How is the weight retention of the standard HST? Short of Highway Patrol, is the bonded JHP necessary? I have a bunch of DPX ammo should I need super-duper weight retention. I am looking for good everyday carry ammo.

I say if you shoot it well go for it, every little bit helps.

These would definately help out in a shorter barrel .45

I can't really help you on the specifics of the bullet construction, but I can tell you the HST has excellent weight retention.
If you work in law enforcement it would be a good idea to go bonded since they have a greater chance of shooting through barriers.  The HST is an excellent choice for CCW.

That sounds mucho expensive

Take care

The performance envelope should allow the 147's to expand reliably even at low velocities. The P9HST2 has been specifically tested by Dr. Roberts and is on the recommended list. I'm sure the +P would work as well, but why generate more recoil than you need?

I got to shoot some in ballistics gelatin at a LE ammo shoot. The 9mm and .45 were very impressive. My department switched to the HST after this. I do not remember if the 9mm was +p or not.

Will the 147gr be okay out of a short barrel like a Glock 26?

Most definately.
