Hey all,

I know Fiochhi and some other manufacturers, some of the chinese stuff, and the S&B IIRC, have the lacquer around the primer and also around where the bullet seats into the casing, but does that actually make the ammo waterproof?

I'm not worried about the gun itself, whether it's my Glock, Seecamp, or Beretta, the ability to drain, dry, clean, and re-lube the gun, doesn't worry me about rust if the gun gets submerged.  But if the ammo gets submerged, it won't work if it gets soaked through.

I know I can put a gun into a plastic bag, and then nothing gets wet, but I was wondering if anyone had done any testing with how long it takes ammo to NOT be useable after submersion or anything.

I searched for waterproof and several other combinations and couldn't find anything.

"Paging Old Painless?"

Can I just seal any ammo with some clear spray lacquer?

Comments and suggestions, or information appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Military ammunition has classically used lacquer to seal primers and asphaltum to seal bullets.

Neither is really required unless you plan on submerging the ammo in water,

Both bullets and primers are interference fits in the case.
