Looking at the last test, from LA, and the data shooting through auto glass, the ONLY 9mm that comes close to the penetration performance I'd want is the Winchester. On the other hand, both 230 gr .45 loads are OK. All fall short of the 12" of penetration, but for this difficult case I think I'd be willing to accept 10" of penetration. The Santa Clara data was similar. As a side note, I don't care so much about weight retention as I do penetration. 100% weight retention with 7" of penetration isn't what I want . . . . Currently I use .45 HSTs, and that seems to be a good choice, but I'm not sure 9mm HSTs are the ticket. At least not for LEO use. Home defense or CCW may not have the same probability of shooting through windshield glass . . . |
