| What's the best way to store large quantities of ammo. I just bought a large amount of Remington 9mm. Do I just leave the ammo in their boxes. Do I buy ammo cans and put the boxes in the cans or take the ammo out of the box and just put the ammo in the ammo cans. |
| Heat, humidity and direct sunlight are the enemies of your ammunition from a storage perspective...consequently, you will do well to store it in such a manner as to minimize all of them. For home storage, I have had very good luck over the years using GI ammo cans and leaving the ammunition in the factory boxes. If I am storing outside the home (garage, etc) I throw in some dessicant packs. |
+1 Buy some .50 cans. You can fit 1400 rounds of 9mm perfectly if they are in 50rd boxes (4 rows of 7 boxes each packed lengthwise). |

Stuff I plan on holding for a while, in factory boxes, in 50cal cans with dessicant. Stuff I plan on shooting in the next 12mos (Blazer Brass from Walmart, same lot #s) packed loose in 30cal cans. Fits around 1200rds per can. I suppose I could fit more of the long-term storage rounds in each 50cal can if I removed them from their factory boxes... but I had enough cans, so decided to leave them in. I don't think it matters either way. Stacked in my basement, it's not like they'd be constantly jostled around... they probably won't move until I'm ready to use or relocate. |
