| Soon I will be doing some landscaping work in an area that may contain poisionous snakes. It's near a swamp and has lots of downed trees, limbs, and high brush. I was wondering if the CCI shotshell ammunition is good for quickly dispatching dangerous reptiles. I will probably be carrying my .357 magnum so I'd like some opinions on their .38/.357 shotshell specifically. If the .38/.357 stuff is no good, I also have a Buckmark .22 I can carry. Thanks everybody! MJD |
| CCI Shotshell ammunition would be an excellent choice for this application. I would be much better than a JHP as there is an increased probability of a hit and a reduced probability of a riccochet or possible collateral damage. A .357/.38 revolver loaded with the aforementioned ammunition is probably the best option. The .22 Buckmark wouldn't be a great choice as anyone who has ever shot snakes will tell you, they are tough to hit...especially with a handgun. The shotshell ammunition is great for revolvers but catastrophic for automatics as they do not cycle and the cartrdiges often destroy themselves trying. When hunting in rattlesnake territory, I wear Snake-Pants and boots and carry a snake bite kit in my pocket. The snakes can't bite through the tough material of the pants and they lack the penetration ability to make it through a good boot. Im not sure what types of snakes reside in your local, but I can't imagine them being fiercer/larger than a rattlesnake, so Snake-Pants might be a good option. |

.45 ACP SHOT do cycle the action correctly… But the .38/357's would be fine for the intended purpose. Never shot a snake with the .22 shotshells but I can imagine! Did eliminate a bat colony from my garage with the .22's. But they are a soft target that doesn't take a lot to kill. |
