Wanting some inexpensive 9mm practice ammo, I picked up a box of (150) Winchester steel case ammo at Wal-Mart.
I handload, but have not yet set up for 9mm. I notice the cases on this ammo seem to be taper crimped. Very obvious compared to other brands, and the many .45 acp rounds I have loaded. Knowing that these rounds headspace on the case mouth... what the hell? Anyway, otherwise this ammo looks inferior to any other 9mm ammo in my stash. The extractor grooves look crusty and dirty. It makes the Tula steel case look handsome by comparison. Any experience with this stuff? |
| I have shot 450 rounds of the Win steel case through a CZ scorpion and glock 19 with no issues. Its my now preferred indoor range load as I used to use the federal aluminum cased stuff. I cant use the aluminum stuff in the scorpion apparently, and the winchester steel case does not have a bi-metal jacket allowing it in the indoor range. It does appear to have a weird crimp, but the ammo runs well enough for me and is accurate enough for my purposes. |
