While both perform in a very similar manner, which is your favorite and why?
Personally, I don't really care, but i usually end up buying 115.

I typically like the recoil difference on most 124 grain loads and they cost me nearasdammit the same as 115

Right now about all I'm loading is 115 grain hollow points.

I tried 147's in my CZs and they don't shoot 147's so well (group size issue).  The 115's shoot much better groups.  I haven't tried any 124's in them.

I'd love to find a load for the 147's that shoots good, still working on it.

Are we just guessing our favorite number?

I'm assuming 9mm, but what are your requirements?  Defense, plinking, competition?  FMJ, HP?  Pistol or carbine?

For pistol plinking and matches I like xtreme plated 124 gr FP.

"Which one?"

For what exactly?

For plinking, I really don't care all that much about weight.  Cheap and reliable is my only criteria.

For HD/SD, I'll take 124gr +P HST's or Gold Dots.

I use alot of 115 for general range use, but 124 in my training time with my carry gun. More closely simulates the 124 Gold Dot or hst that I carry.

[#6]
For defense I use mostly 147gr HST and occasionally 124gr HST or Gold Dots. As far as plinking goes, whatever brass is cheapest. I did score some 147gr Speer and 147gr Winchester Train really cheap around the holidays so I have been building up a 147gr plinking stash as well.

I prefer 124 , that is after all the original 9mm bullet weight; but most bulk/cheap ammo is 115 so that's what I buy for range use. 124 HST for dense though.

The indoor range I go to sells 115gr Blazer Brass which is what I shoot at the range. I also bought some 124gr NATO and 115 gr Fiocchi from Cabela's that I shoot at the range as well. For SD I shoot 147gr HST. Before I was able to get 147gr I bought 124gr HST instead.

For self defense I use 124.

For competition I use 124.

For plinking I use 115.

Not the cheapest option but... 147 grain Gold Dots group fantastically in my P-01. If you reload you could try some factory loads; if they group well then you could buy just the bullets and then reload them into your brass for a fraction. Just a thought.

For plinking? Don't care really. I generally load the cheapest which is mostly 115 plated or FMJ.

But for HD and EDC? 147 baby, HST or a Gold Dot.

124, I generally go for mid weight bullets in my pistols.

I use generic 115's for general range blasting with both my 9mm handguns, but carry 124's. My no-shit practice loads are also 124's. My Kahr K9 (EDC gun) shoots them to point of aim at 15 yds.

Interesting. I tried my new Rami with both 124 and 147gr Federal HSTs. It liked the 147 noticeably more.

All things equal which has the least recoil?

I carry 124gr. but usually end up practicing with 115gr. It seems most FMJ practice ammo priced well is 115gr.

I carry the 124gr. because I bought a big batch and it seems the best balance between a heavier well performing round and reduced perceived recoil.

147 doesn't do well for me in my G26, a bit too much unnecessary muzzle jump.

Cheers!

I usually buy the 115s for punching paper as they are relatively cheap and available for just burning powder, the 124ss seem to be a bit more accurate though in most of my guns.

124 HST +p in the G26 for carry.  Whatever's cheapest for practice, usually 115gr Tula or 115gr Federal aluminum case.

115 for range shooting, either home reloads or Federal aluminum case.

124 for carry/defense guns, usually Gold Dots. If I can find them at a decent price ill grab some HSTs every now and then as well.

Poll needs 147 added.  It is the only correct answer.

I carry 147gr HSTs but the majority of what I shoot at the range is 124gr. The main reason for the 124gr is that I'm very accurate with and like the recoil feeling of Winchesters 124gr NATO FMJ ammo. It's loaded to +P levels and while the recoil is sharper than other loads, it doesn't pull me off target or make follow up shots difficult, it's sharp and fast with my sights staying relatively on target....
