When it comes to buying ammo in bulk, what considerations do you follow?

Is your decision based on price only? How "clean" the ammo is? Type of case material?

Depends on the use.

For range fodder , I prefer a TMJ type bullet because they are cleaner burning. ( no exposed lead at the base )

Also, the least expensive product is rarely "good enough" for me.... IE, Federal's 115gr "Champion" line has proven to be underpowered.... sometimes it won't cycle the slide all the way. At least with my brand new recoil springed Beretta 92 ( it did prior to the recoil spring replacement. )

As a cost example... the Fed 115gr Champion is currently $9.99 / 50 and I got the Speer 124gr TMJ for $10.40 / 50....extra Money well spent.

I really like Swiss GECO ( Bimetal bullet though, but outstanding accuracy ) , and Speer Lawman 124gr TMJ 9MM.

Gunbot.net is something I use frequently for ammo searches... and then Google the choices or ask here.

Sometimes....Saving a few dollars on cheaper ammo really didn't make it a deal to me.

Tula, wolf, or whatever is cheapest.

Punches holes in paper from 5-25 yards.

Glocks love it and my TRP loves it

If I buy cases I do the same. My Glocks and my 1911 run just fine with steel ammo, and the accuracy is plenty good for range practice. My local wal mart has 9mm and .45 Federal aluminum case for $10/50, so whenever they have it in stock I buy a couple hundred at a time.

Obviously I use defense ammo in my carry guns, and any time I take a course or run defense drills at the range I like to run brass cased ammo.

I haven't had to buy much other than projectiles in a while, luckily my father in law keeps us up with reloading 9 and .45

ETA: for cheap brass range ammo check your wal mart for Perfecta, it runs great for me.

I reload, so brass is preferred entirely, and not the berdan kind either
