Are you guys sure the 9mm standard pressure 124 GD in on Doc list
I don't recall seeing it listed at his other forum |
| AFIK unless it is now on some newer list, it either was not tested or didn't pass the standards. Remember that most agencies use the +P version, so it is entirely possible it has never been tested. The Federal 124gr LE9T1 standard velocity IS on the list, however. |

I couldn't find any tests he did. The factory data shows that ALL 9mm Gold Dots except the 147g fail the 12" penetration in bare gel test. http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad262/gusandson/Firearms/Ballistic%20Data/2f958d31-447b-471b-935b-b9ccb26029ab_zps216c2300.jpg Hopefully, I won't have to shoot anyone that's naked. |

Amusing coment, but: 1.) If the TV show "C.O.P.S." is any indicator, most criminals don't wear shirts 2.) In Georgia bare gel is more likely to be representative of your adversaries clothing than 4 layers of denim. 3.) What it really boils down to is: Do you think the FBI has more or less knowledge/experience/expertise in shootouts than you do? If they set a minimum standard, I personally will follow that standard if I can. And I say that "tongue in cheek" since your links to Doc's tables indicate you know what's what with ammo selection. |

The Lawman 147 TMJ had a lot of recoil in my P30S.
Never had a pistol that had that much recoil.( but it is my first poly pistol) The Lawman 124gr was mild like it should be. I'm stunned at the difference between the 2 loads. Even my P229 40cal shooting 180gr aint as bad.. I might go for the Federal 124B if not the 124 HST thats 50FPS slower |

You should never consider the FBI standard as a the it thing because it really is not. Plenty of loads are street proven against the boogeymen yet by the standard they should have only annoyed the person being shot vs stopped them.
The standard has been argued for years as being over kill for what most people will need. Even LE Agencies are hit and miss with the standard. You would be surprised how few bids specs I get from Departments and their is no mention of the standard. I'm not saying ignore the list or the list is some how faulty. I like the list, I make money off ammo from the list. I often carry ammo from the list myself. What I mean is just because your favorite load is not on the list it does not mean that you are under gunned. There is no need to panic and run to your LGS or a web merchant to buy new ammo. If you need to or just want to update your ammo by all means please consider the loads on the list. |
