I know there is the tacked thread at the top, but I just wanted some info I could not find in there.
I recently picked up a SW 642, and while I was at the show, I was able to grab a box of Hornady Critical Defense with the change I had left over. These are the 110 grain FTX +P's. Now, I know in the thread, it mentions two specific rounds as being acceptable, the Speer and the Corbon. Does anyone have any info as far as the Hornady's in a short barrel? Would you trust them, or should I use them as practice ammo to get acclimated to the increased recoil of performance ammo, and just buy some of the afor mentioned ammo. Any help would be greatly appreciated |
| What ever ammo you wish to carry - you should at least shoot some of to know if the sights are on or where it will hit. I tend to prefer Winchester Silvertip ammo. But I really suggest you buy ammo from several manufacturers and try each on a seperate target to see how they perform from that pistol. |

Here's the link: http://ammo.ar15.com/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/DocGKRData/38spl_HorndayFTX_SpeerGDHP_CorbonDPX.htm But then the second batch of GD's sucked. Just shows there's no guarantees. |

I think he is using a revolver . In the jframes I have the 110 gr loads all shoot low compared to the 148 and 158gr loads |

So what do you think now? Well, since it seems that i can very from batch to batch, these Hornady's are only staying in until I can find some of the Cobon's or the Speer. Then again, the Speer's had trouble with the denim the second time around
What do you guys feel comfortable carrying in your 642, or similar sized wheel guns ETA: In my other thread, several members mentioned the Chicago load? Is that just a large grain semi hollow based wadcutter? |

Is that just a large grain semi hollow based wadcutter? The Chicago or FBI load is a lead 158gr Semi Wadcutter Hollow point. It was loaded by Federal, Winchester and Remington. There are various opinions as to which version, if any, was the best. Today, Buffalo Bore's version likely outclasses the older versions, but at a price. |

What section of their website could I find it under? I have no problem paying the cost for proven SD ammo its just all the practice that gets to me

Awsome, thank you very much. Does anyone have a link to some gel tests done with these? Or is it just accepted that BB makes a quality product. |
