Sucks. Went to the range today, my brother ordered a few boxes online. Some .40 S&W 165 grain JHP, & some .380 +P HP. The idea of a +P in a .380 struck me as odd, however I guess a .380 needs all the oomph it can get (I had never even heard of a +P in a .380). Long story short two handguns that have never had any failures at all both choked on this ammo, a Ruger LCP & a SIg 239. The ammo would hang up on the feedramp of the .380 every other round, and the 239 choked 2-3 times on about 4 mags.
He changed back to Federal, CCI, & Winchester and both guns ran perfect. Long story short none for me, I'll stick to something else I know works. That is all.

Well, for one thing there is no commonly accepted standard for +p in a .380 auto. Buffalo Bore and all the others marketing these rounds know this. Why they still do this is anyones guess.
My humble oppinion is they load up lead loads because they handle increased velocity better. The copper jackets are about 5 times harder than the hardest lead (linotype). This means they will go down the bore with less pressure and more velocity given the same pressure as a jjacketed bullet. Best to just stay away from that kind of stuff if your gun won't feed it. |
