I have a S&W Model 61 Escort .22lr pistol with a broken firing pin. I tried searching for a replacement with no luck. I then tried Smith & Wesson who told me they no longer have parts for this pistol. My question is whether or not I can "glue" the two pieces back together with something like "JB Weld" ? And will it hold up to occasional firing ? |

I doubt it. Can you post a pic? I tried to find the model 61 escort exploded diagram, but no luck in my library or on line. Sometimes a bit of judicious modification on another common part for another gun will work - Ruger is famous for using modified 1917 Enfield extractors on M77s, and I found a few 1911 parts can be modified to fit Ballester-Rigauds. |

Places to get a new firing pin for the S&W Escort: Gun Parts Corp. www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=1980z61%20ESCORT Part number 7. Jack First: Best parts house there is, but you HAVE to actually call. www.jackfirstgun.com/ Exploded view of the Escort, (also on the Gun Parts site): www.stevespages.com/ipb-sandw-escort.html "Gluing" a firing pin together will not work and would be very dangerous. There'd be a high possibility of a slam-fire or even full-auto burst. If nothing else, the Escort firing pin is fairly simple. Any good gunsmith could easily make a new from from drill rod. |
