Hello gang,
Many years ago I bought a Fed Ord alloy frame &
configured it to a Champion length .45 with a Brazilian
slide.
A few years back I left it on top of the car & when it
hit the asphalt, it broke off the lower corner of the grip
so that there is only about 3/4's of the hole left where
the main spring housing pin goes through, on one side.
I have shot the gun a fair amount like this & it still
runs OK, but I feel a failure is going to happen sometime.
Does anyone know of a braze on mag well? Or any other
possible fix. I have checked Brownell's, but all of their's
are steel.
I know I can have the frame cut down to
an Officer size, but I really like the full size grip.

I'm going to use this gun as a Duracoat test & would
like to repair it before I do that.

Thanks is advance!

Welding aluminum is tough, so you'd need a real pro to weld on a mag well.
Then too, the well will also have to be aluminum.
Aluminum will not braze, so that's out.

Another option is to to make up a "filler" from aluminum and have it welded on to replace the missing corner.
This will be as easy as welding on a well.

Wheel,
I didn't think braze was the right
term for aluminum, oh well.
I was hoping to find an aluminum
well to attach to the frame. I'll take it
to a local smith & see if he has any ideas
for a repair, but I really don't want an
officer's...

Thanks for the response!

You have options:

One of the funnels that's part of the mainspring housing would be plenty strong, since the housing will reinforce the funnel to the point that the one hole would be enough.

Wheel,
I had looked at those, but I don't  think
they will help reduce the strain on the good
side of the frame. I think I will talk to a local
smith about adding some flat bars to both sides
& maybe blend them in to create a mag funnel.
I think trying to add the part back that has broken
off would take a lot more work...

Gun show this weekend, so I'll plan on taking
it in & see what these guys suggest.

Thanks for the input!
